Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Museums

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania does not fall short in number when it comes to visitor attractions. Museums are no exception. There are currently more than 25 museums in and around the city, including art, glass, aircraft, and even a children's museum.

The Carnegie Museum of Art is located in the Oakland district of the city. According to Child Magazine this museum is ranked in the top five for being one of the best art museums for kids in the country.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, Thursday 10 am to 8 pm, and Sunday 12 pm to 5 pm. They are closed on Mondays and major holidays with exceptions as follows: Open Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, and Mondays 10 am to 5 pm in the summer between July 4 and Labor Day.

Admission is $15 for adults and seniors 65 and over will pay just $12. Students and Children ages 3 to 18 will pay admission of just $11, while children under 3 are free. Admission includes Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History is open the same days and times as the Carnegie Museum of Art, with the same Holiday policies. Admission fees are also the same and include admission to the Carnegie Museum of Art as well.

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh amazingly has two more museums in the city. The Andy Warhol Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm with extended hours until 10 pm on Friday. The museum is closed on Monday.

Admission is $15 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, students $8, children ages 3 to 18 pay just $8 while members of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh are free. Fridays from 5 pm to 10 pm all admissions are half price.

The Andy Warhol Museum boasts over 12,000 works of art by Warhol including paints, drawings, photographs, sculpture, and more. Between the works of art, and the mounds of archives, The Andy Warhol Museum is the most comprehensive single artist museum in the world.

The final Carnegie museum is the Carnegie Science Center. The museum is open Sunday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 7 pm. They are closed on Mondays as well as the other fine Carnegie museums.

The Carnegie Science Center has a variety of shows and admission prices. General admission shall include exhibits, Buhl Digital Dome, and USS Requin, which is a seasonal experience. General admission for adults is just $14 and seniors 62 and over and children are just $10.

The Carnegie Science Center offers laser shows, special engagement films, and OMNIMAX films as well. You can add these to your museum experience of pay a separate fee to see a show without the museum. You can view all variations of packages and shows by clicking here.

The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is located in the North Side district of the city. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday from noon to 5 pm. Admission is $10 for adults, senior citizens over 65 and children will pay just $9, while children under 2 are free.

The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh has a variety of exhibits on three floors. Children will especially love the Mister Roger's Neighborhood exhibit and the Toonseum featuring original art created for cartoons.

The Fort Pitt Museum is a must visit for any Pittsburgh tourist. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but holds hours from 9 am to 5 pm Wednesday through Sunday. Admission fees are just $6 for senior citizens 60 and over, $7 for ages 12 through 59, $4 for ages 3 - 11, and children 2 and under are free.

The exhibits at the Fort Pitt Museum include video presentations, artifacts, historical artwork, and computer generated simulations of Fort Pitt. The exhibits date back all the way to the 1700's when Native Americans populated the city.

The Frick Art & Historical Center is located in the Point Breeze district of the city. The 6-acre complex is open Tuesday through Sunday between the hours of 10 am and 5pm, and closed on Mondays. The Frick Art & Historical Center sports everything from decorative arts, artifacts, and exhibitions to vintage cars and carriages. The museum and all of its collects are the legacy of Helen Clay Frick.

The Mattress Factory is a museum of contemporary art. The museum is located in the historic Mexican war Streets of Pittsburgh's North Side. Many of the exhibits are full room size works of art.

The Mattress Factory is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5pm and from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is just $6 for adults, senior citizens and students will pay just $4, and small children are free.

Photo Antiquities Museum of Photography is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays but holds hours every other day of the week from 10 am to 4pm. Guided tours are given with every visit. The exhibits change monthly and they sport images from all eras in Pittsburgh history.

The museum is dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and education of the history of photography. Admission is just $6.50 for adults, students and senior citizens pay just $5, children 5 through 12 just a $3 fee, and children under 5 are free.

The Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $5 for students, and $3.50 for children ages 6 through 18. Children under 6 receive free admission.

The Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. It is also the largest history museum in Pennsylvania.

The Pittsburgh Glass Center is a must see when visiting the city. They are open to the public Tuesday through Thursday from 10 am to 7 pm and Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The center is closed on Mondays.

The Pittsburgh Glass Center is a school, gallery, and studio and is one of the top glass centers in the world. If you are interested in working with glass the center also offers some wonderful classes by top-notch instructors. During a tour at the center you will get to see a glassblowing demonstration, start to finish. Artists blow and shape amazing works of glass art right in front of you. You will learn about Pittsburgh's history in glass and explore an amazing glass art exhibition.

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. is dedicated to honoring and remembering the veterans of the United States. They feature exhibits from the Civil War to present day conflicts.

The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. Admission for adults is just $5, seniors, children ages 6 to 13, and veterans pay just $3, and children 5 and under are always free.
