Thursday, September 10 vs. Titans
Titans - In week one a team who surprised a lot of NFL fans and experts last year with Chris Johnson at the running back position the Titans opened up a running game that no NFL team was ready for, with all the weapons that the Titans displayed in the 2008 season they will no doubt come out in this first game of the season to make an impact in 2009. The Titans offense must step up this game against the seemingly relentless Steelers defense lead by James Farrior, at line backer and Troy Polamalu at Safety and the very strong defensive line. It is my belief that with as dominating as the Steelers defense is it will be up to the titan defense to stop the Steelers force mistakes to put the titan offense in good field position. If they are unsuccessful with this, which is no small feat the Steelers should be looking at a 1-0 to begin the season.
Sunday, September 20 @ Bears
Bears - The Chicago Bears who struggled for the majority of the 2008 season have made a lot of headlines in the off season with the acquiring Jay Cutler from the Broncos. Whether he covers the void at QB for the Bears only time will tell, but in my opinion the Bears team which are still learning to work with new and inexperienced team members. Although the bears do have some very talented weapons such as Devon Hester on their tea m which is know at any given moment to return kicks and punts all the way back for touch downs however struggled in the 2008 season to even return one for a touch down. Therefore it is my belief that the Bears will not be much of a match for the defending World champions.
Sunday, September 27 @ Bengals
Bengals - In week three the Steelers play the Cincinnati Bengals who have not had any notable changes with the offense or defense in the offseason. The teams' star receiver Chad 'Ocho Cinco' Johnson and starting QB Carson Palmer struggled to get along in the 2008 season with notable incidence between the two in sideline disputes and arguments. It is my belief that with this dysfunction plaguing the team the Steelers will close this game down by half time.
Sunday, October 4 vs. Chargers
Chargers - What to say about the chargers. They have many offensive weapons including QB Philip Rivers and RB LaDainian Tomlinson, it is no doubt that the Chargers are a contender to not only make it to the playoffs but all the way through to the Super Bowl. Between the two power houses of the AFC it is my belief that this will be the first of the big juggernaut game of the season for the Steelers. Any football fan who loves a great mixture of offensive and defensive game will want to keep their DVR ready for the October fourth game between the Steelers and the Chargers.
Sunday, October 11 @ Lions
Lions - There is not much to say about the Detroit Lions, being the first NFL team to go 0-16 in NFL history. Even with the draft picks they are set to get during the 2009 NFL Draft it is my belief that the team is still too young and inexperienced for this season to be the turn around season that many Lions fans are hoping for it to be. It will take more than one season to make a turnaround after a 0-16 season. The Steelers should be able to handle this team with very little as far as a challenge.
Sunday, October 18 vs. Browns
Browns - The Browns and Steelers have always had a heated rivalry and the two are known for exchanging wins as well as blows during each season. The Browns recently lost their star TE Kellen Winslow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; however I believe the Browns still have the weapons on their team to pull a win off if they use them effectively. If they capitalize on any Steelers mistakes and make them count on the score board it is my opinion that the Browns will win this game, However if they make mistakes like they have a tendency to do the Steelers will be the victors walking off the field.
Sunday, October 25 vs. Vikings
Vikings - The Vikings are a "What are they going to do this time team." Meaning the Vikings are that one team that will struggle week after week then come in and win a huge upset game against a team such as the Steelers. The Steelers are not going to want to take the Vikings lightly, expect the Steelers to come out hard core scoring quick and early to take the Vikings out of this game.
Monday, November 9 @ Broncos
Broncos - Following a by week the Steelers are notorious for using the rest to get back into hard hitting mode. Also with the Broncos loosing their QB to the Bears I believe this will truly show if they can match pace with the Steelers like they have done in past years. This game will go down to the final seconds and who has the ball last. If they Broncos let the Steelers get ahead by more than two possessions and let the game get away from them they will surly lose.
Sunday, November 15 vs. Bengals
Bengals - Much like the first game on September 27; I believe this game will not be much of a contest for the Steelers. The Bengals will most likely start the game well, holding onto the game in the first two quarter, however by the third quarter the game will be well out of reach and the Steelers will win.
Sunday, November 22 @ Chiefs
Chiefs - The Chiefs who recently acquired Matt Cassel from the Patriots who started in Tom Brady's absence last year. This is the team I have been most interested in watching this season. It is my opinion that this year and game will not go as the Chiefs hope for it to, however in the coming years the Chiefs will be a team to watch. As for this game I believe Matt will keep the Chiefs a contender, however when the final bell rings I believe the Steelers will be victorious by two possessions.
Sunday, November 29 @ Ravens
Ravens - The Ravens were a big surprise team last year coming within an eyelash of winning the AFC championship and defeating the Steelers, however much like that game they had the endurance and were able to force mistakes to end the game with a win. Make no mistake this will be a knock down drag out fight. I believe this game will go down to the wire and will be a test of endurance and forced mistakes. Whoever accomplishes this feat will be the final victor. If I must pick a winner the Steelers who last year found a way in almost every game, and found a little more endurance and want to. It is that level of endurance that makes me believe the Steelers will win this within the final minute of the game.
Sunday, December 6 vs. Raiders
Raiders - The Raiders who have struggled the past few years much believe this is because the owner does not give the head coach freedom to say who comes and goes on the team. Which is the reason the team has not had a new coach the past two years. Former Raider QB Rich Gannon was reported stating on NFL network during an interview that "Its not a difficult place to work, its an impossible place to work." it is that dysfunction that I believe the Raiders will not win this game nor will they win any big game until the owner and head coach come to some kind of agreement on who has the final say in signing and releasing players.
Thursday, December 10 @ Browns
Browns - The Browns as before I believe this game will go blow for blow all the way to the final quarter. I believe that the Steelers will win this game as they have a solid reputation to kick it up a notch and winning late in the season.
Sunday, December 20 vs. Packers
Packers - The Packers who caused a lot of controversy with the Bret Farve ordeal, many thought Aaron Rogers was ready to take the reigns of the Packer team. He wasn't then nor is he now. I believe Ben Roethlisberger is the more experienced QB and the Steelers will pull out this game as a win.
Sunday, December 27 vs. Ravens
Ravens - Just like the earlier game in November I believe this game will go blow for blow, tackle for tackle, touch down for touch down. Once again this game will come down to final minutes, however the Steelers known for pulling out big wins late in the season will pull this one out as a win as well.
Sunday, January 3 @ Dolphins
Dolphins - The Dolphins are a memorable team for me as my grandmother was a huge Dolphin fan, and in a way I like the Dolphins myself. After a horrible 1-15 2007 season, the Dolphins came out and surprised everyone in 2008 by beating the dominate New England Patriots early in the season and finishing the season with a winning record. The Steelers with all their weapons and power on offense and defense, here it comes folks my upset of the year will be the Miami Dolphins defeating the defending world champion Pittsburg Steelers in the 2009 season finale'
In closing I believe the Steelers have a relatively easy season this year. With a few unforeseen upsets along the way I believe the Steelers will close out the 2009 season with the record of 12-4 and with a very strong playoff performance the Steelers will win the AFC championship and go on to the Super Bowl for a repeat. All in all this should be a very entertaining and eventful season for the 2009 Pittsburg Steelers.
