Pittsburgh Steelers 2010 NFL Draft Grade
Breaking Down the 2010 NFL Draft for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers First Round Pick in the 2010 NFL Draft
I love the Steelers selecting Maurkice Pouncey the center out of Florida. I am glad the Steelers resisted the urge to draft a quarterback in response to the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault allegations. Pouncey is big at 6ft 4 and could play guard or center and I expect him to be a day one starter.
Pittsburgh Steelers Second Round Pick in the 2010 NFL Draft
Jason Worlds a 6ft 1 defensive end out of Virginia Tech is a good pass rusher that will probably move to linebacker in the Steelers 3-4 defense. I think the Steelers could have gotten another offensive lineman here or a defensive back that they needed.
Pittsburgh Steelers Third Round Pick in the 2020 NFL Draft
Emmanuel Sanders a 5ft 11 wide receiver out of SMU will help try to replace the traded Santonio Holmes. Emmanuel Sanders will probably be the 3rd or 4th receiver for the Steelers in 2010.
Pittsburgh Steelers Fourth Round Pick in the 2010 NFL Draft
Thaddeus Gibson is another defensive end/linebacker and he is out of Ohio State. I still think the Steelers could have added a decent defensive back by this point. This pick will hurt the analysis of the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers draft.
Pittsburgh Steelers Fifth Round Picks in the 2010 NFL Draft
Chris Scott the offensive tackle out of Tennessee should make the team and be a rookie contributor if not a starter. The Steelers offensive line needs all the bodies it can get.
Crezdon Butler a cornerback out of Clemson finally addresses the defensive back shortage on the team. Butler needs some polish but may be able to earn his keep on special teams while he learns the pro game.
Stevenson Sylvester a 6ft 2 linebacker out of Utah concludes the Steelers fifth round picks in the 2010 NFL draft. Sylvester better be a special teams ace on this suddenly plentiful linebacker roster.
Pittsburgh Steelers Sixth Round Picks in the 2010 NFL draft
Jonathan Dwyer may be the sleeper pick of the 2010 NFL draft. Dwyer was ranked 2nd on my list of running backs in the 2010 NFL draft. Dwyer possibly dropped draft rank due to not playing in a pro offense at Georgia Tech. With Willie Parker playing for the Redskins now the Steelers have need of a back like Dwyer.
Antonio Brown a wide receiver out of Central Michigan will try to make the roster with his speed and agility. Brown is fast but small at 5 ft 10 and 186 pounds.
Pittsburgh Steelers Seventh Round Pick in the 2010 NFL Draft
Doug Worthington a 6ft 5 defensive lineman from Ohio State will try to earn a spot in the rotation. Worthington is under 300 pounds and I think he needs a year on the practice squad and in the weight room to help the Steelers.
2010 NFL Draft Grade for the Pittsburgh Steelers
I give the Pittsburgh Steelers a B- 2010 NFL draft grade. I loved the Pouncey and Dwyer picks but was lukewarm about the rest. I really feel that the Steelers should have drafted more defensive backs.
