Pittsburgh Steelers Defense Has Dominated NFL Opponents Can They Maintain in NFL Playoffs?

Todd Jacobs
Offense has not been the Pittsburgh Steelers best department this season and as they enter the NFL Playoffs their defense will determine how far they will go in their Super Bowl quest. Ben Roethlisberger is playing quarterback as he did in his first Super Bowl season. He is managing the game and not making mistakes. With a bye week in the first round of the NFL Playoffs and the number two seed, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be a threat for a deep run in the NFL Playoffs.

If Troy Polamalu is not Healthy Will Pittsburgh Steelers Advance in NFL Playoffs?

Troy Polamalu has dealt with injuries late in the NFL season and when he has been off the field for this Pittsburgh Steelers defense they have foundered. Polamalu adds the element of uncertainty to opposing quarterbacks and affects their decision making skills in tough situations.

Polamalu has suffered with several injuries but is currently dealing with an Achilles heel injury that could end his season if he does not take care of it properly. The Pittsburgh Steelers earned their bye week and will be able to allow their injured players, especially Polamalu to heal. Answer: If Polamalu is not healthy the Pittsburgh Steelers will make an early exit from the NFL Playoffs.

Will Aggressiveness of James Harrison Backfire in NFL Playoffs?

James Harrison has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL this season and the NFL player racking up the most fines from Roger Goodell and the NFL. Harrison has been aggressive this season despite the added attention from the NFL office but will he continue to play with reckless abandon in the NFL Playoffs? Answer: Yes, James Harrison will be aggressive in NFL Playoffs but it will not backfire on Pittsburgh Steelers.

Can Ben Roethlisberger Manage a Last Minute Drive to Win an NFL Playoffs Game?

Ben Roethlisberger is not raising any memories of Pittsburgh Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw this season. He has been more like Kordell Stewart this NFL season. Roethlisberger's passing ability and late game management have not been tested this season and history points to the need to be a late game clutch quarterback in the NFL Playoffs.

Roethlisberger is averaging just over 200 yards per game in the passing department but he does not have much to work with in the receiving department. Mike Wallace has taken over as the deep threat on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Hines Ward is still clutch over the middle for Roethlisberger. Answer: Ben Roethlisberger may not have what it takes if the Pittsburgh Steelers need a late comeback in the NFL Playoffs.

Mendenhall is a solid running back that has been a work in progress this season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is looking very fast late in the NFL season and does not look like he has worn down over the course of the grueling 16 game NFL season. Maturity is a quality that is developed over time and Mendenhall has developed this season. Answer: Yes Rashard Mendenhall is mature enough to be a star in the NFL Playoffs.

I think Pittsburgh matches up well with the New England Patriots. That will be a good game if they play each other.

Pittsburgh definately has a good chance of shutting New England down, despite losing to them earlier in the season.
