Pity Party Playlist: 5 Great Songs for when You Feel Sorry for Yourself

Tammy Lee Morris
Yeah it happens--we start to feel sorry for ourselves due to circumstances in our lives and then we decide to throw a pity party in the hopes that our friends will join in on the whine fest. Before you suck it up and stop being a whiney baby, check out these songs that are perfect for your next pity party. Note: There are no country songs (except for one bluegrass song) on this list as there are way too many that are great for a pity party.

"Loser" by Beck

When you are throwing your own little pity party, Beck's "Loser" is the perfect choice. With a chorus liine like "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me," this song pretty much says it.

"Creep" by Radiohead
This is a great song whether you're having a pity party or not, but it's certainly appropriate for a personal whine festival. With lyrics like "I wish I was special. . .but I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo, what the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here" this is a must have for a pity party playlist.

"Man of Constant Sorrow" by Soggy Bottom Boys
This is a great song that may be all about feeling sorry for yourself, but you can't help but smile and feel good when you hear it. It is also from one of my favorite movies "O Brother Where Art Thou?" This song says it succinctly: "I am a man of constant sorrow. I've seen trouble all my days."

"The Sky is Crying" by Stevie Ray Vaughan
Of course it's the blues and when you're having a pity party you've got the blues baby. Celebrate it with Stevie Ray and this great song that makes you feel like your lover, your dog and your life have disappeared. Blues riffs are awesome but they make you feel a little sad and pathetic even if you have nothing to feel pitiful about. Add this one to the pity party playlist and you'll be happy. . .well, maybe at least satisfied. Maybe.

"Cumbersome" by Seven Mary Three

Is a great rockin' song that says how low you can be when you feel like your very existence is a detriment to the world. "I have become cumbersome to this world," is a pretty low statement to make about yourself. If you don't listen to the words, this is a great song for anytime you want to rock, but for a pity party? It's a shoe-in.

I love this article. As an eclectic music afficianado (I hope I spelled that right) I love to make playlists and listen to new things. This is a great one, and perfect for those "down" times.
