Pizza: Choose the Healthiest

Choose Healthy Pizza Crust, Toppings, Sauce and Cheeses

Mary Martin
Going to a pizza restaurant can be a healthy choice. Many pizza restaurants have added more healthy options to their menu items. Two pizza restaurants that offer healthy choices are Pizza Hut and California Pizza Kitchen. Both restaurants offer a variety of sizes, crusts, toppings, and sauces that offer healthy choices.

At California Pizza Kitchen you may choose to order a for one- Margherita Pizza with a Crispy Thin Crust which contains 420 Calories, 18g Fat, 45 g Carbs and 20 g of Protein. Or you may choose a for one- Four Cheese Pizza with 510 Calories, 17g Fat, 69g Carbs and 22g Protein. Another healthy choice is a for one- Sicilian Pizza with Crispy Thin Crust which contains 450 Calories, 22g Fat, 40g Carbs and 21g Protein. They also offer a for one Bbq Chicken Pizza with 500 Calories, 13g Fat, 73g Carbs and 25g Protein. Several healthy salad choices are available.

You may wish to order the Grilled Vegetable Salad (1/2 portion) with 197 Calories, 12.7g Fat, 20.7g Carbs and 5.9g Protein. Another healthy salad choice is the Classic Caesar Salad which contains 250 Calories, 19g Fat, 15g Carbs and 7g Protein. Or you may choose the Field Greens Salad (half) which contains 214 Calories, 0.5g Fat, 55.7g Cars and 0g Protein.

At Pizza Hut you are able to choose from four 6" Personal Pan Pizzas all with fewer than 600 Calories. The two lowest in calories are the Ham & Pineapple Personal Pan Pizza or the Veggie Lover's Personal Pan Pizza both which contain 550 Calories each. Also offered are the 12" Fit 'n Delicious Pizza which all contain 180 Calories or less per slice. The 12" Pizza Mia Pizza is available as Cheese Only or Pepperoni and each slice has 200 Calories. You may also choose one slice of the 14" Large Thin 'N Crispy Cheese Only or Pepperoni Pizza which contains 280 Calories.

You may check online for more complete nutritional information. There may be combination specials that offer a personal size pizza and a small salad. Or there may be other menu items that offer great nutrition and fewer calories. I chose to focus on pizza in this article. I did not find much information about the types of crust available or any information on the difference that the crust makes in the overall nutritional value. I know that more pizza restaurants are including whole grains in their crusts.
