Pizza with Porn on the Side

Entrepreneurs who are launching their own stores, companies and restaurants will spend countless hours and a lot of developmental time looking for a way to bring attention to their new enterprise and potential customers to their respective stores. From huge ad campaigns to guerrilla marketing techniques, scores of ideas will be tossed in the wind as striving entrepreneurs push to bring recognition to their ventures. In Winnipeg, Canada the owner of a new pizzeria has taken marketing to a new extreme.

The adage sex sells has been used to make sense of magazines like Playboy and Penthouse and television shows like Real Sex and Sex in the City on the cable network, HBO. Sex sells is the reason why if you turn on the Spike Network after 1am you will find an infomercial for Girls Gone Wild. In marketing terms and cash flow potential, sex really does sell. This is obviously the reason why Corey Wildeman, owner of Porn Pizza has taken the approach to giving customers something to look forward to as they consume his tasty Italian pies. With each slice of pie removed from its cardboard container, more of the pornographic photo is revealed. Imagine a twelve slice pie. With each slice removed, more of a scantily clad, if dressed at all woman is revealed to the salivating appetites of patrons of Pizza Porn.

Launched less than a month ago, people would think Pizza Porn would be filled with sex-crazed young men, college students, whose insatiable desire for all things porn would be at an all-time high. But in an interesting twist, over 75% of the customers at Pizza Porn have been women. That is not a misprint, according to Corey Wildeman, women like their pizza and porn too. Now of course, no marketing professor or small business consultant would encourage an entrepreneur to go to such an extent to build buzz about the launch of a new business. All buzz is not good buzz if it is accompanied by a client profile that is divergent from the one being pursued. For entrepreneurs like Corey Wildeman, any business might be good business.

What is interesting about Pizza Porn is that the gimmick is actually working. Wildeman says that the idea for Pizza Porn, or porn in the pizza box came from his personal obsession with pizza and pornography. Add that to the fact that more than one porn script has a pizza delivery guy delivering one of the Italian pies to the home of a lonely, single young woman and them engaging in sexual relations. Wildeman says that while many would think his marketing ploy to be completely illegal in addiction to being immoral, the fact is that in Winnipeg, there is no law against doing his pizza and porn combination as long as he continues to ask all patrons to show identification, proving they are over the legal age limit of 18.

Corey Wildeman has been surprised by the demographics of Pizza Porn. With many believing that women would be adversely affected by what is revealed inside the pizza box, time has proved them and other skeptics wrong. The fact that such a large percentage of women are eating their pizzas at Pizza Porn is an indication that women are a lot more comfortable with sexuality and pornography than the raw data has led us to think.

With pornography and pizza intertwining for the first time in Canada it cannot be long before such a campaign will be launched in the US and to similar fanfare. If Heidi Fleiss can open a laundry mat while trying to get approval for a legal brothel, then the tactics used by entrepreneurs to get their businesses off the ground will have no limits. As Corey Wildeman has proven, at least in Winnipeg, sex still sells.

Just ask his who he has been meeting with lately. Though only a month old, Pizza Porn is already in talks with investors about franchising Pizza Porn in other cities in Canada. With sales of almost five hundred pizzas the first week, Pizza Porn has been an overwhelming success in a market where new restaurants have seen less than stellar openings.

In the eyes of Wildeman, pizza is worth eating, the Pizza Porn way.
