Places to Adopt Cats in Salt Lake City, Utah

Ryan Barnes
Unfortunately, many cats are put to death every year in the nation's animal shelters. It is such a tragedy that these beautiful creatures can't find homes. Many of these little guys that need a second chance at life. In Utah many homeless cats don't need to be homeless for too much longer. Salt Lake City has many great locations to adopt pets from.

The first place to look is at the humane society. In Salt Lake City the humane society is the best place to find animals. They have the largest selection and you will probably be able to find a cat just for you there. In addition to having the largest selection of animals they are probably the cheapest too. Granted, you won't find any purebred kittens, but you will find a great companion to snuggle up with you guaranteed. The humane society in Salt Lake City is located at 4242 South 300 West, Murray. You can call them at (801) 261-2919.

The next place to look is at the animal shelters. Each city has their own. My personal favorite in the Salt Lake City region is actually in West Jordan. They have an animal shelter comparable in size to the Utah Humane Society. With similar adoption fees, the West Jordan Animal shelter is a great place to look for a new buddy. The address of the West Jordan animal shelter is 5982 West New Bingham Highway, West Jordan. It is a bit of a drive but well worth it to visit the little guys that you can meet there. You can call ahead at (801) 282-3951.

The last place you can find your kitty cat at is at a petsmart. Petsmart works in conjunction with animal shelters and humane societies to help out and facilitate the adoption of pets. If you can't find the cat of your dreams in one of the other places a good chance of finding him is at a petsmart. Petsmarts dot the Salt Lake Valley and it seems like every time I turn down a street another one pops up out of nowhere. Each store has a different selection of cats so be sure to check them all out. Your new buddy might be in a store that you didn't think to look at.

This month is adopt a cat month and if you live in the salt lake city area be sure to check out these great places to find a cat that can be a great friend for years to come.
