Places that Offer Free Pregnancy Tests

The pregnancy test aisle at the local supermarket or pharmacy can be daunting with the numerous choices available from clear blue to plus signs to digital reading tests. As well as confusing, these tests can be expensive! Some pregnancy tests cost up to $30. Many women are unaware of the resources that offer free pregnancy testing, consultations and advice regarding the results of the test. Here are some resources that can be found in the majority of communities where women can obtain free pregnancy testing.

Planned Parenthood offices are located around the country and can offer great resources to expectant mothers; their services go way beyond pregnancy tests as they offer counseling and advice as well. The website, which will hold location information, is available at www.plannedparenthood.org. On the front page, you can enter your zip code or the state and find the local offices. Planned Parenthood can help put the mothers in touch with offices that can give prenatal care, as well as pregnancy termination information.

The local Public Health office is a good resource for women who think that they may be pregnant. The public health office offers more resources than vaccine, and community program information. They offer prenatal care, pregnancy tests and often these are free, if not very inexpensive. More information can be given as the majority of public health offices employ registered nurses within the clinics. They can answer any questions that you may have - or any concerns that you would like to be addressed.

Many cities, towns and communities have free health clinics. These clinics can be used for those who have little or no health coverage. Often, these tests can be completed in clinic, with urine or with a blood collection to test for HCG which can take up to two days to get results from. The HCG levels within the blood are more accurate than urine collection, and are therefore preferred at most clinics. However, since the clinic is free, than they may opt for the cost efficient urine collection and testing kits, as they come in volume and have a small margin for error.

If you have health coverage, than a visit to your family physician can yield pregnancy test results either collected by urine within the office for immediate results, or with blood collection for results that take on average of twenty-four hours. Often, the doctor or nurse will contact the patient as soon as these results are received.
