Places to Vacation in the Southwest During the Fall or Autumn

The scenic settings of autumn leaves and trees sprout an inclination for the great outdoors. The light breeze and yellow leaves leave a sense of wonder at the beauty and magnificence of nature. A sense of solitude and tranquility prevails during such times, and in such hectic times as these, the solitude and tranquility of nature are welcome to sweep away all the worries of the world with the current of babbling brooks and swirling streams.

Certainly, one of the most incredible places for a scenic experience is Lake Tahoe, and there is no better time than the Chocolate, Wine, and Roses Festival, which is getting together with Project Mana to help fight hunger on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 7pm. Tahoe's finest pastry chefs culminate their culinary creations for the delight of all. Accompanying these sweet treats are regional wine samples, live and silent auctions, and more. Advanced tickets are $50 or $90 for two. I would spend the night at one of Vacation Station's vacation rentals. Private cabins with between 1 and 6 bedrooms. Amenities include hot tub, sauna, high speed internet, and much more. Rates are reasonable starting at $290.00 for three days and two nights. This would also be the ideal honeymoon getaway. On Sunday, I would relax and fish or go horseback riding and take pictures. For those who are more adventurous, there are a number of exciting activities to pass the time on a Sunday afternoon, such as wall climbing and learning the trapeze.

Another unique fall excursion, one that especially great for sight seeing and photography, would be to hop a train in Colorado. Cumbres and Tolec sightseeing coach chugs 64 miles from Antonito, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico. This would also be great for making videos. The first day I would spend in Antonito enjoying one of their many outdoor opportunities, which include fishing, rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, biking, and hiking. Personally, I would go hiking or horseback riding and take lots of pictures. While I was in Antonito, I would stop by the Dutch Mill for some southwestern cuisine. The next day, I would take a motor coach from Antonito to Chama. Then I would return to Antonito by train. This trip begins at 8:15 in the morning and runs through 4:15 in the afternoon. Refreshments are enjoyed during the journey aboard the train.

Scenic wonders can be found throughout nature, but one of the most incredible is definitely waterfalls. Waterfalls collapsing into a cascade of coursing waters with the autumn yellows and oranges reflecting in streams takes away the breath of onlookers. Zion Canyon offers just such a breathtaking sight. For lodging, I would choose the Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort. Activities include horseback riding, rock climbing, ATV riding, jeep tours, paintball, a rifle range, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and softball. There is also a wagon ride to the Dutch Oven Dinner and a pioneer experience.
