If you are like most Americans today, money is tight. There's not enough to go around for bills, let alone for pleasurable activities that cost money. So I have put together a list of some of Salem Ohio's places to visit for free, and still have a great time. Whether you are looking for things to do in one day or one week, visit these free places for pleasurable activities.

First visit The Butler Institute of American Art, located on State Street in the downtown area. Step into the world of American Art and see history where they "[present] selections from the Butler's permanent collection, exhibitions by nationally-known contemporary and historic artists, and the best of regional art talent".This art gallery has two other locations, Youngstown Ohio (Main Branch), and Howland Ohio. You can even take a virtual tour online at http://butlerart.com/. You can scedule a tour, or schedule an art class for children and adults by qualified instructors. These galleries are absolutely fascinating.

If you are looking for an outdoor activity, visiting one of Salem's Parks will give you beautiful nature walks, or physical activities. At centennial you can check out the tennis court, maybe play a few rounds with a family member or friend. If you enjoy watching small animals run wild, take up one of the swings, and sit back and watch the sun set or rise. The Memorial Park offers a duck pond, a place to take the kids or grandkids. Bring along a bag of bread, or just sit back on the benches to see a beautiful array of ducks and geese. If you enjoy basketball, softball or volleyball, you can hang out here for hours playing your favorite sport. The volley ball net has a sand pit all around it, so that you can play in your bare feet. Both parks offer a variety of softball and baseball games during the season. Just take a drive by in the afternoon, you might catch a couple of games going on, so then you can choose. Sometimes there are spring, fall, and summer concerts in the park, and everyone can attend for free. Either park you choose to visit, know that you can park your car and enjoy all the parks has to offer, for free.

Every Wednesday night, during the summer, Arby's in Salem offers a cruise-in night for anyone who wants to come show off their old classic style cars or your pimped out ride. Whether you are a driver or a visitor, you can check out some neat rides.
