Plan a Tattoo Themed Birthday Party for Kids

Nik Minor
While boys and girls can't always agree on everything, one thing they both seem to thoroughly enjoy is temporary tattoos. Kids love mimicking adults, from about the age of two it seems they can't grow up fast enough. At this year's birthday party, let your child and her friends get a chance to play grown-up by planning a temporary tattoo themed party.

Temporary Tattoos are Safe and Easy: an Instant Birthday Party Hit

Temporary tattoos, which are applied using a small dab of water, last from a few hours to a few days. They come in an assortment of shapes and sizes and can be applied on arms, legs, faces-pretty much anywhere there's skin.

Birthday Party Idea: Set Up a Tattoo Station

To thoroughly impress upon the kids the severity of getting a tattoo, set up a mock tattoo shop at the birthday party. Section off a part of the house and put in a comfortable chair and workstation. Have all of the temporary tattoos laid out on the table, along with a small bowl of water, cotton swabs and hydrogen peroxide (tattoo artists always clean the area first).

Find Tattoo Ideas

Find dinosaur, Disney, frogs, seasonal, pirate's, glitter, ID tattoo bracelets, flower, and Christian tattoos online. Another idea is to purchase temporary tattoo paper and let the kids design their own tattoos. Have them draw up a tattoo of a reasonable size. Scan the image onto the computer and print onto the tattoo paper. Cut and apply. Be sure the colors aren't too close together, to avoid any bleeding.

Offer Face Painting

Another idea for planning a temporary tattoo themed birthday party is to include some face painting. While you could hire a professional, it doesn't take much artistic ability to paint a heart, flower or butterfly. Other face painting ideas for your tattoo theme party include fairies, lips, colorful mushrooms (think Mario Bros), comic book heroes, cat whiskers, rainbows, and lizards. Another idea is to ask kids to draw their design first to encourage their creative side and help you pull off a better design. Find face paint at Target, such as the Snazaroo party pack found HERE. Birthday Party Idea: Take Pictures

When planning your tattoo themed birthday party, don't forget to include the pictures. Once the tattooing and face painting are complete, have a camera handy to take pictures of the beautiful artwork. Upload the pictures and then print out (to save on cost, simply print on paper using a color printer) and put inside of a photo album. Buy cheap 5 x 7 photo albums from the Dollar Store. Send home with each of the kids (if ready by the end of the birthday party). Otherwise, plan to drop them off the following day.

I absolutely love this tattoo-themed party idea, Shanika! I would have loved this as a kid, but I will definitely remember this one for my own kids someday. Some things are always good ideas - this one is one of them!

I wore a fake tatoo once, but it drooped badly and turned into a snake with wings.

Fun ideas. Warn parents to have the bath water ready when they get their fully decorated specimens returned to them.
