When we started our morning in early November, initially we planned to get something small at Starbucks, which is right next door. However Starbucks had a line around the block and didn't seem to have any food that would really fill us up for the day. We had a long day planned and needed more than just a scone to make it through. So we decided to try Planet Dailies and ended up getting a lot more to fill our bellies.
The Restaurant
This big open restaurant is made up of a lot of tables with booth seating along the walls. There are TVs all around showing various sports channels. It is quite a large place and could easily fit a big group of people. The music plays quietly throughout breakfast time to keep you awake with out being too loud.
The Service
During our first visit, the service was decent, but during our second visit, the service was bad. The waitress never came back to offer us refills when we were thirsty. My husband didn't get silverware until after his food came and even then it was the busboy who ended up bringing it to us and not the waitress who we hardly ever saw. It seems like it is just the luck of the draw there as the first visit we have better service than the second.
The Food
Planet Dailies offers page after page of breakfast options so they are sure to please everyone that is looking for a big hearty meal to start off their morning. Most of the items are set up in combos giving you more than enough food. For my first breakfast, I ordered the Scrambled Dailies which came with three eggs, cheese, breakfast potatoes, a meat and toast. I was really in the mood for an English muffin and the waitress was fine with substituting the toast for a muffin. My husband ordered one of the omelets which came with the same sides. The meals are definitely large and neither of us could finish everything on our plates. Both of our meals cost around $12 and it was worth it for what we got. We left feeling satisfied and ready to go about our busy day.
On the second visit, I did not want us much food so I asked if I could get scrambled eggs on the side instead of as part of a meal. The waitress said YES but it's $3 an egg! That was crazy. If I wanted 3 eggs it would be $9 just for scrambled eggs? What a rip. However I really wanted a bagel that day so I sucked it up and got 2 eggs and a bagel with cream cheese. The food was still good but I did not feel that the 2 eggs were worth $6 when the day before I got 3 eggs, plus cheese, plus all the sides for only $12.
The Coffee
For a restaurant that calls itself "The Ultimate Coffee Shop", I was surprised that there was no specialty coffees. I searched the menu and the table high and low to see what coffee they served just to find only one entry for regular coffee. Granted, there is a Starbucks right next door, but why call yourself a coffee shop if you don't serve a variety of coffees?
Overall
We did not try this place for lunch or dinner, but I still recommend it for breakfast. I would only caution that you don't go if you are not that hungry since none of the menu items are small and ordering a la carte can cost you. Check out Planet Dailies in the Planet Hollywood next time you are visiting and in the mood for a nice big breakfast! Enjoy!!
