Planet Waves, a division of the D'Addario Company, offers a wide variety of shoulder straps, but it is their woven straps that offer a great balance of style, durability, and affordability. With various product lines such as the West Coast, Woodstock, and Alchemy collections, Planet Waves has many unique styles to suit just about any guitarist.
Constructed from durable nylon web material (similar to a seat belt), the design is integrated into the weave rather than simply silk-screened onto it. Like most straps, it is easily adjusted by moving a durable nylon buckle towards the player's shoulder to shorten it or towards the instrument to lengthen it.
On the non-adjustable end, the tough leather end piece is connected to the strap by a strong rectangular nylon clip triple-stitched securely to it. The other end piece is identical, and allowed to move freely within the loop of the adjustable end. Both leather end-pieces are single-stitched to their nylon clips, and are supple enough to easily slip over the end buttons, yet stiff enough to hold the instrument firm and secure. Barring any over-the-top stage antics, the danger of your prized instrument accidentally slipping out and smacking the ground is virtually nonexistent.
And finally, these beautiful straps come with a sliding shoulder pad, which helps increase performance by eliminating annoying strap friction on your shoulder, even against bare, sweaty skin. Made with a padded, velvety-soft underside to maximize comfort, the shoulder pad is cleverly held to the strap by a net-like fabric with an open honeycomb weave which doesn't obscure the awesome graphics of the strap.
Planet Waves woven guitar straps can be purchased from many music stores, or online from the D'Addario Store. They retail from $14.99 to $24.99, which makes them a great value for those interested in a durable, stylish strap with some way-cool designs. With all the different collections and motifs available, there will be a Planet Waves strap that will compliment just about any axe out there!
