Planning a 2010 Resolution Party

A Fun Way to Be Sure to Keep Your Resolution All Year!

The MakeOver Life Coach
I'm sure you're wondering "how will a party help keep me from binge eating when I am trying to lose weight next year"? Well the party is much more than a group of girl or guy friends gathering for covered dishes and cocktails. This party will require the guests to bring more than just their smile and a bag of Chex Mix. Here are the rules!

1. First you want to sit down and think about your own New Year Resolution by asking yourself a few questions.
a. What things do you most want to improve about yourself?
b. What changes would you like to see happen in your life?
c. What will it take for you to become the person you have always wanted to be?
d. What steps must you take to achieve your ultimate goals?
e. What step have you wanted to take but have put off until later because of fear or lack of support?

2. Once you're done brainstorming and have decided on your list of resolutions it's time to plan a party. You want to be very careful of your guest list. Why? Because this party, unlike others, will consist of some really intimate personal issues that must be discussed with the rest of the group. You will share your resolutions with your guests and they with you.

3. Start by considering those friends and family members that are the most supportive and positive. You may even want to invite a mentor, a parent and siblings; Most importantly anyone in your life that will contribute positively and cheer you on. Give careful consideration to this task because this group will be expected to stay in touch with you throughout the New Year.

4. Once you've ironed out the guest list its time to have some fun. Think about a theme for the New Year Resolution party. The same inspirational theme that you will use to keep you focused and fired up though out the year! You can use themes like "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" yes this is a Michael Jackson song but you can play it every time you feel yourself slipping or when you go to the gym to run on the treadmill! Don't like that one, you can use your own favorite song, inspirational phrase, scripture, quote, whatever you wish. Just be sure to include this on your invitations and buffet table and party decor. You could play the song or have everyone make up their own at the party.

5. Now, you have your resolution, your guest list and your theme. It's time to add all the little details! A fun menu that includes themed foods: Pudding Your Life First, No Quitting Queso or Make it Happen Mac, Sandwich Way to Go and Success Salads! These might sound a little cheesy but you can make up your very own. Also add a few handmade crafted party favors for your guests to take with them. A nice idea would be to craft little key chains with the theme on the both sides. After you have made out all the details (more details will be on my blog) you can think out your party agenda! At some point in your party have everyone stand up and recite their resolution. After which each guest will take turns sharing what they will do to help the other achieve that goal. You may even designate partners within the group and have a follow up party during the beginning of the year to keep the focus fresh!
Whichever way you choose to coordinate your Resolution Party remember to stay positive and have fun! Allow the party to be a buffer for the New Year. You don't have to have this party on New Years Eve or even on New Years day. It is a good idea to have it sometime before the New Year holiday. This way you are free to celebrate the New Year how you wish! If you do decide to have a Resolution party take pictures and video the event. You can use this as a tool through the New Year as well! Share your party with us by emailing us or leaving a comment on our blog!
Lastly, have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year! Blessings to all of you!
