Planning an Astronaut Themed Birthday Party

Ainsley Patterson
If your child loves astronauts and all things outerspace, then planning an astronaut-themed birthday party to celebrate their next birthday is a great idea. Below are some suggestions to help you with your party planning.

Planning an Astronaut-Themed Birthday Party: Invitations

Send out mission notices to all the children invited to your child's astronaut-themed birthday party. You can go online and fine the NASA emblem to put on the front of the invitations (pick up one of those nifty printer kits to print your invitations on) and then fill the inside of the invitation with the following:
Mission: ___'s ___ Birthday Party (name and year)
Mission Date: (your address)
Mission Headquarters:
Blast Off: (start time of party)
Return to Earth: (end time of party)
Should you choose to accept this mission, contact Houston at ___-___-____.

Planning an Astronaut-Themed Birthday Party: Decorations

Glow in the dark stars are an easy and affordable way to decorate the party area for the astonaut-themed birthday party. A jar of 135 glow-in-the-dark stars can be found at Amazon.com for $13.25, and of course when the party is over your child can move the stars into their bedroom.

After you have throw some glow in the dark stars up on the ceiling and/or walls, hanging up an inflatable solar system in the next logical step. An inflatable solar system can be found at OrientalTrading.com for $16.95, and once again your child can put the solar system up in their room once the party is over.

If you can find a piece of cardboard big enough, then have your child lay on the piece of card board in a standing waving position and trace their outline. Then you can have your child turn their outline into either an alien or an astronaut. Once the outline is colored in and cut out, prop it up next to the door so that it can greet your guests.

Planning an Astronaut-Themed Birthday Party: Food

For the kids to snack on your can set out moon rock candy, Starbursts, Mars bars, and Milky Way bars. When it comes to the actual meal you can serve the children flying saucer mini pizzas (Bagel Bites).

If you would rather make your own flying saucer mini pizzas, or have the children make them then you can make english muffin pizzas.

All you will need for this astronaut-themed birthday party meal is english muffins, a can of pizza sauce (or a jar of spaghetti sauce), shredded mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni.

Heat up a frying pan to medium heat. While the pan is heating have the children help you assemble the mini pizzas by putting sauce, cheese, and pepperoni on the english muffins.

When cooking their mini pizzas, simply place them in the frying pan, no oil or butter needed, and place a lid on the pan to help the cheese melt on top. It should only take the pizzas about 5 minutes in the pan before the cheese is melted and the sauce, pepperoni, and english muffin are heated.

Planning an Astronaut-Themed Birthday Party: Activities

Finger rocket craft kits from OrientalTrading.com offer two activities in one. First the little astronauts will get to add details to their rockets, including a passenger, and then they will get to launch their rockets. You can even set up a contest to see who can launch their rocket the farthest.

There are many different coloring pages, at http://www.coloring.ws/space.htm, that you can print out for the children when planning a astronaut-themed birthday party. If the little astronauts are older then you might even let them cut out the pictures once they are done coloring them and glue them on a posterboard to make their own space mural.

Toward the end of the party you might put on a space-themed movie, such as Apollo 13, for the little astronauts to watch until their parents arrive to take them home.

Planning an Astronaut-Themed Birthday Party: Cake

A really easy way to incorporate the cake into your child's astronaut-themed birthday party is to purchase space-themed toys small enough to fit on top of the cake. You could also draw a spaceship or shuttle on the top of the cake. If you don't want to do either of those, you could simply cover the cake in star sprinkles.

Hopefully you have found these suggestions helpful in planning an astronaut-themed birthday party. Just be creative when planning an astronaut-themed birthday party and the kids are sure to have a good time.
