Planning a Blues Clues Theme Birthday Party

Pam Gaulin
Planning a Blue's Clues Theme Birthday Party for toddlers and preschoolers does not have to be complicated. You can easily and inexpensively center a child's birthday party around Blue's Clues and the lovable Blue's Clues characters. This guide to planning a Blue's Clues Theme Birthday Party will cover everything from the invitations to the cake. It will also provide some inexpensive alternatives to purchasing Blue's Clues party decorations and related favors. This planning guide includes DIY projects, where to find free printables, and other information you can use without spending a lot of money.

DIY Blue's Clues Birthday Party Invitations

The first party planning agenda item is the invitations. It helps to make the invitations first, so you can your child can create the invitation list. This is a good time to set the limit of people you will invite. Also, your child can help you make the invitations.

You will need dark blue paper and light blue paper.

Fold the dark blue paper in half.

Use the light blue paper to cut out circle shapes for the paw. Each paw should have one large circle and four little ovals. The circles and ovals should be irregular. Glue the large circle onto the front of the card and then add the little ovals.

Kids will immediately recognize the Blue's paw print.

If you want to be extra creative, put each invitation in an envelope. Draw a big mailbox on the front, just like in Blue's Clues the show.

Type up the party information and print it out. Make copies. Cut out the information and glue to the inside of the card.

Time Saving Tip: You can also print free Blue's Clues invitations directly from the NickJr. site. Go to the tab for Party at the top of the page. Scroll down the page until you find the pull-down menu for Party Planners. Pick Blue's Clues.

Click on "Blue's Clues Invitations." Then print. The invitation will print in color. Then the free invitation can get folded.

DIY Blue's Clues Birthday Party Decorations

You can continue the paw print them by making larger paw prints to decorate the walls. Also use paw prints to help small children navigate to different areas of the party.Tape the paper or laminated paper paw prints to the floor.

One set of colored paw prints could lead to the games area. Another set can lead to the drinks and cake. Don't forget to include a set that shows where the bathroom is located.

Make a mailbox using a cardboard box, with a big red flag. Draw a face on the front of the mailbox. Kids can put their cards in the mailbox.

Cheaper Blue's Clues Paper Goods

It is easy enough to find Blue's Clues themed paper goods for the party. If you want to save some money, only purchase one themed paper good time. Either get the theme plates, napkins or the cups. For the other paper goods, buy matching colors, including dark blue, light blue, white or silver.

Also purchase a plain white tablecloth. On the table, leave some blue ink pads and some paw print stamps. Also place crayons on the table. The kids can sit and decorate the table cloth during the party's down times, or while anxiously waiting for the cake.

Blues Clues Craft Project

This Blue's Clues craft project involves making Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper bubble blowers. Purchase individual bubble blowers for each child. Cover half of the bottles with off-white paper and the other half with gray paper.

Use black craft foam to cut out black circles for eyes and arms. Cut out orange mouth shapes as well.

Make one Mr Salt and one Mrs. Pepper as examples. Set the materials on the table, with some glue sticks.

Free Option: Instead of bubble blowers, you could simply decorate water bottles in this way.

Recycled Option: Use recycled coffee creamer bottles to create the Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper and Paprika family. This idea can be used for either a craft and a party decoration.

Free Coloring Pages

Another easy craft for kids is to make their own Blue's Clues Coloring Book.

Go to Nickjr.com and print out three or five coloring pages per child. Let them pick the images they want and secure them with a big blue clip.

Blue's Clues Party Favors

Make your own Handy Dandy Notebooks for the kids. These DIY Handy Dandy Notebooks can be used as party favors, or used to play a Blue's Clues game.

Purchase a packet of small spiral notebooks. Draw a picture of the thinking chair on red paper. Cut it out and glue it to the front. Don't forget to include a new crayon with each notebook.

For younger children, you may not want to give them a notebook with a metal spiral. Simply use a hole punch to make holes in five or six small squares of paper. Tie together with a short string. Make the cover with the thinking chair and add the crayon.

Blues Clue's Cake or Cupcakes

For detailed instructions on making your own Blue's Clues cake see NickJr.

Or, make cupcakes which the kids can decorate themselves. NickJr also has a template you can use to make Blues Clues candy decorations for the top of cupcakes.
