Here are a few ideas for planning a family staycation in Sacramento:
Tours of Old Sacramento
If you have some history buffs in the family, plan a day to tour Old Sacramento to see the historic buildings and cultural landmarks scattered throughout the district. Old Sacramento is home to a lineup of antique stores, historic homes, old buildings and the California State Railroad Museum. You can spend an entire day touring this area on foot, and even take a cruise down the Sacramento River to enjoy the sites.
Old-Fashioned Fun at Funderland
Head to Funderland for the day and purchase a wristband to enjoy unlimited access to the amusement rides and attractions all day long. Funderland is an outdoor park with several rides and attractions that are suitable for even younger kids in the traveling party. From the Tea Cup ride to the Dragon Coaster, everyone will have a good time enjoying some old-fashioned fun at this local landmark.

Exploring Sutter's Fort State Historic Park
While a staycation can include plenty of time for rest and relaxation, it's also a great opportunity for some educational and learning experiences. Take the kids out to Sutter's Fort State Historic Park, Sacramento's earliest settlement to see what it was like to live in this area before the Gold Rush era. The historic preservation site features exhibits that tell the story of gold discovery in the area, and is the perfect place for picnicking. Admission is just $4 for adults and $2 for children between the ages of 6 and 16.

In addition to these three popular attractions and sites, families planning a staycation in Sacramento can check with the local library, museums and art galleries about free events and workshops available to local residents. From the Sacramento Zoo to Fairytale Town, you can find discounted admission prices and seek out special events that the whole family can enjoy any time of year. Many museums and venues participate in the annual "Museum Day" where admission is free all day long.
