Planning a Great Father's Day

Don't be Generic
Traditional can be fun, generic...well, not so much. One problem with so many holidays is that it is easy for them to devolve into "generic" activities that won't really celebrate your Dad at all. You want to spend a good time with your father, and you want to show your father you appreciate him in his own idiom.

What's He Like
As you start to plan out your Father's Day, pause for a moment and just think. What is your dad like? Don't think about what you want to do specifically yet, but start thinking about how your father reacts to certain behaviors or activities. You don't want to do something that makes him feel awkward or uncomfortable. Again, it's about celebrating your father in a way he would enjoy, not in the way you think best or the media thinks you should.

What does He Like
Now you can start thinking about what exactly your dad enjoys doing. Not just kinds of activities like socializing or going out to eat but what kind of food does your father like? What are his favorite things to do? Beyond that what does he like doing with you and your family specifically? Make sure to include the rest of your family, everyone you'll be spending time with, in this phase of your planning. Make sure to voice your opinions and be reasonable all the while remember that it's what your dad likes not you that matters.

Time for the Plan
Now it's time for the plan specifically, you should be here at least a week or so before Father's day. Start laying out an itinerary, or at least a basic ground level schedule. Make sure that your dad won't have to worry about what's happening so you, he and your family can just focus on enjoying yourselves.

Spend Time with Him
It's time now, Father's day. Your Father loves you and make sure that whatever you do, you at least spend some time with him. Taking the time and effort out of your life to spend with him will mean a lot.
