To start you will need invitations. Get some orange construction paper and draw pumpkins on them that are big enough to write the invitation on. You can draw a silly face on the back of the pumpkin. On the front side you can list the date and time of the party along with the RSVP information. Put a small note on it for parents letting them know that no scary costumes please. (Since most of the guests will be under age 5.) Your toddler can help by folding them (if necessary) and putting them into envelopes, or, if you just plan on handing them out, he can hand them out with your help.
Planning the games will be fun. You can get rubber ducks in costumes from places like The Oriental Trading Company for very little. Write numbers on the ducks that correspond with a gift bag or type of treat they win for picking it. Fill up a kiddie pool about 1/3 of the way and toss the ducks in. The best place to do this activity would be on the porch or in the garage, if it were too chilly.
The next game could be pinning the eyes on the ghost. You can make a larger size ghost (without eyes of course) and lightly blindfold the children and have them put an eye on the ghost. For the littler ones you can skip the eye covers, just let them put it wherever. The closest wins a prize (of course give them all treats for trying)
There are many games that you can play with toddlers, including a "Shake the Scaries Out" dance. Kids love to move and with music playing, they will have a blast! You can get coloring pages and have them color pumpkins, ghosts, witches and hats. You can get felt hats from the craft store and have the kids decorate them. All it takes is a bit of imagination and creativity!
Now with the food you can do so many fun things. To make "Creepy Crawler Cupcakes", all you need is some cupcakes, chocolate frosting, crumbled up chocolate cookies and some gummy worms. Mix the frosting and the cookies together. Frost the cupcakes, adding the worms as you go, covering them up with a light covering of the frosting mixture. For a few more yummy treats you can make the kids, try looking at a few of the recipe site for kid friendly ideas.
For treats, you can offer healthy options such as a juice box, trail mix, stickers, small toys (you can buy many in bulk for very cheap), and fruit. Coloring books and crayons are also a big hit amongst the little ones. Make sure every child leaves with a bag of goodies for coming to your wonderful party!
Happy Halloween!
