1. Start cutting and printing out coupons. A lot of people do not realize how much money they can actually save by cutting and printing out coupons online for food as well as merchandise. Many online sites such as the Coupon Mom site can redirect you to amazing offers that will save you tons of money on numerous items. During the holiday season, online stores offer many discounts that can be printed and brought to the store that is offering them.
2. Make your own holiday gifts. It is a lot cheaper to make your own holiday gifts, then to buy one made by someone else. Gift baskets, T-shirts, music CD's, floral arrangements, even ceramics. You can buy most of these products almost at cost. You get to save money-making your own, as well as give someone something unique and special. Sometimes it's better to give from your heart, then your pockets.
3. Check out the thrift and consignment stores in your area. Not all thrift stores sell used, beat up items. In actuality, most of these places sell almost new items to where no one would know the difference. Especially when it comes to knick knacks, pillows, lamps, toys, books, and a lot of the clothes as well. Do not just stick to the major thrift stores either, some of the best deals are at the small ones that are not advertised. Look around!
4. Set a limit to what you spend per person and stick to it. One of the reasons people spend too much during the holiday season, is that they spend too much on one person, and a little on another. Instead, make a set amount for every person you are going to buy for this holiday season. Especially when it comes to friends/co-workers. This will help you know exactly how much you are spending and not to go over it. No matter how much you want to spend more, do not. Stay within your limits.
5. Stay away from name brand items. If you are cooking a holiday feast for a lot of family/friends, stay away from buying named brand items. Today, most generic food items taste just as good as named brand items, and cost up to 50% less. Even if you are used to buying name brand, take the time to check out the generic brands. If you spend a $150.00 on brand named items, I can guarantee that you will spend $75.00 if you go with generic.
If you are looking for ways to plan for the holidays on less income, there are five ideas to start with. One of the most important ideas is to setting an amount limit and sticking to it. If you can do that, then you will definitely stay well within your budget limits this holiday season.
