Planning a Mexico Family Vacation

If your family is looking for an exotic location to visit on your next family vacation, you might want to consider Mexico! There is a variety of scenery provided by Mexico, and it's not far from home. Your Mexico family vacation will provide a lot of fun things for your family to do, no matter what your interests are. The rich cultural heritage of Mexico can also provide an excellent educational opportunity - as well as a chance to brush up on your Spanish!

One option for a Mexican family vacation is to make getting there part of the fun. Many cruise lines offer destinations in Mexico, on either ocean coast. Cruises offer a number of advantages, including inclusive packages and the availability of information about resort you will visit. Plus, since your accommodations travel with you, you will be able to visit several sites in Mexico without having to make complicated travel arrangements. Most cruise lines offer on-shore and on-ship entertainment with a full schedule for adults and children, so much of your planning can be taken care of when you purchase your package.

If your budget can't handle a cruise vacation to Mexico, there are many resorts to take your family for a family vacation. Since Mexico is bordered by both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, there are plenty of coastal beaches to see and enjoy, and a vibrant culture with a rich and sometimes tumultuous history. From Aztec and Mayan architecture to the Conquistadors and rebellion, something has always been happening in Mexico's history, and there are many opportunities to explore this culture's history.

Among the popular destination resorts in Mexico for families is the Fairmont Acapulco Princess, on the Pacific Coast. The Fairmont Acapulco Princess sports its own golf course with 18 holes, Aztec-style pyramid buildings for an authentic historic Mexican experience, tropical gardens, tennis courts, five pools including a tropical river pool with waterfalls and a man-made lagoon, spa, and a kids club with planned activities for children ages four to eleven.

Another popular vacation spot is the Ritz-Carlton in Cancun, Mexico. While Cancun is a famous spring break destination for college students, the Ritz-Carlton features many family friendly attractions, including miniature golf and nearby water parks. OF course, all the fun activities you expect to find at a seaside resort are available, including wind surfing, scuba diving, boat rentals, golf, and water skiing. The Ritz-Carlton also has two swimming pools and a KidsCamp program.

Also located in Cancun is the CasaMagna Marriott, which has access to many of the same attractions as the Ritz-Carlton, and also has a children's program as well as a full-service health club and two tennis courts. While visiting any Mexican resort, you might want to consider taking excursions to go whale watching, for which the best time is between November and March.

If the resort vacation is not for you, there are many other ways to vacation in Mexico, including multi-day tours of geographic or historic significance - including the Mayan or Aztec Indian cultures, or Mexico's colonial period. Or get a feel for modern Mexico with tours of Mexico City.

As with any vacation to a foreign country, it may be wise to consult with a travel agent familiar with the country you are visiting. In addition to being able to put together a money-saving package, they can also advise you of local customs, attractions, and hazards you might otherwise overlook on your Mexico family vacation. Planning is critical to a fun vacation, and you'll experience fewer unpleasant surprises and more smiles if you take the time to plan out your vacation in advance.

Hi Sophie, You should go! You're so close. Cabo San Lucas is pretty nice and is only about an hour or so from San Diego. The trip from New Jersey is so long.
