Planning Someone Else's Future

T.K. Moyer
Have you ever tried to plan someone other than yourselves future. It is 1:30 in the morning and I have been laying in bed trying to plan the future for someone I love. We found out this week that my dad has terminal lung cancer. I am very concerned about his spiritual condition and know the truth of the matter so I won't belabor the point. The point of my writing right now has to do with planning the future. You see, I feel right now that my mom is my responsibility. As her only son I want to help her get everything in order for the future. I am desperately trying to find the right answers for her concerning how she should move on with her life once my dad passes. Should she sell this property or buy this one? Should she invest her money in land, stocks, or cash? I worry about her being lonely when my dad passes. Even though they live in separate quarters of the house I still can't imagine living in the empty house that used to contain your 3 children and your husband. I am trying to figure out how to get her to visit me in Texas more often, and how my children can be more involved with their mawmaw (or mawmow as Kylie calls her). Geesh this is hard to figure out.

All of this has made me certain of one thing. I may be pretty good at planning out my life (or at least the little bit I try to hold on to), and I may be able to come up with a plan for my Mom, but there is no way in heck that I could do this for billions of people. It truly stresses me out to think that the decisions I make for my mother could impact her life for the next thirty years. How in the world can someone do this for more than one person at a time? Yet God in his infinite wisdom, power, and sovereignty can. It is actually quite amazing to me to think that at this very moment God is listening to the prayers of millions of people. He hears each one and can act according to his will in each of those prayer requests. If you are a believer in God it should give you great comfort to know that God can juggle more than a billion requests at a time. Lord only knows that I get stressed just having more than 1 thing at a time to do. I have no doubt that there are countless thousands of people begging God right now to plan out there future. The amazing thing is that He has already done it. It blows my mind to think of God's organizational skills...or...uh Sovereignty.
