Planning a Vow Renewal Ceremony on a Budget

Planning a vow renewal ceremony can be just as much fun (if not more so) than the wedding was the first time around. However, just like the wedding the first time around, it's a good idea to stick to a budget with making plans and shopping for supplies, dresses, accessories, etc. Here are a few tips on planning your vow renewal ceremony on a budget.

Keep It Small -- One of the best, yet hardest, ways to plan a vow renewal ceremony on a budget is to keep the guest list short. Whether you had a large or a small wedding the first time around, know that each guest costs you. If you're working with a wedding planner, they will most likely have their services broken down into groups of how many guests you'll be having. You'll have to seat each guest (which could cost you around $25 just for the chair to sit in), and then there's the reception dinner that they'll be eating. Each guest costs you money, so keeping your guest list short, and your group small, you'll be helping your budget.

Shop Around -- No matter how big or small your budget it, it's always a good idea to attempt to find a good deal on the items you'll be buying, or renting. If you're planning to use a wedding planner or party coordinator for your vow renewal ceremony, you can even shop around to find a good deal from different planners before making that initial deposit. Shop around for everything. The more diligent you are, the more likely you'll find a good deal and save money.

Do It Yourself -- When it comes to centerpieces, guest favors, and even invitations, doing it yourself can save you a lot of money. These things take a little time and energy, but when you're working within a budget it can help your vow renewal ceremony save money. And your handmade pieces can even make your ceremony all the more special to you and your spouse. At the end of the day, it's better to spend some time doing things yourself than spend the extra money for someone else to do it for you.

Shop Online -- Shopping online for supplies is an easy way to outfit your vow renewal ceremony with your favorite goodies while still saving money. Check sites like eBay for dresses, ribbons, favors, and many other items. Not only is online shopping great for finding a deal, but you can use the more elegant wedding websites to create a collection of ideas and suggestions for your own ceremony. Use these ideas when you're out looking for a sale or discounted items, and see what you can find that fits into your vow renewal ceremony.

Buy On Discount -- Many bridal/wedding shops have regular sales, discounts, and/or outlets where you can shop for much cheaper than their regularly priced merchandise. This could be items that will soon be going out of stock, or simply one season moving into the next. Either way, buying on discount is an excellent way to save money and stay within your vow renewal ceremony's budget.

Plan Early -- Planning your vow renewal ceremony early gives you time to break up the expenses over a longer period of time. When you're planning on a budget, this can make all the difference in the world. It gives you time to find just the right items at just the right price. We all know how it's easier to spend $100 at a time, rather than $3,000 at one time. Breaking your expenses up into smaller portions can help you stay within your budget, and even actually increase your budget in small amounts if you're finding that the budget you've previously set is too low to encompass all that you want.

A beautiful ceremony, in the locale of your choice, doesn't have to break the bank if you do it right. Eliminate unnecessary items and waste. Invite only those closest to you and your spouse; those that you want to celebrate your vow renewal with you. Have fun and enjoy planning your vow renewal ceremony. This is one exciting time for you and your spouse. Make it the best you can while staying within your budget (check out my other article, Cheap Places to Shop For Wedding Supplies).
