Plant Trees, and Go Green: Taking Good Care of Mother Earth

Hellen Wyeth
Everyone is concerned about the planet. What effect are we having, and what can we do to make it better? Some even feel so guilty that others are making a killing off them with carbon credit Web sites and offering environmental stress counseling.

In order to drive your big gas guzzler without feeling guilt you can simply go online and figure out how much of a carbon imprint your vehicle is making on our planet. They have a nifty calculator that totals your vehicles emissions and how much you drive to come up with what would be an appropriate donation. Donations are supposed to go to environmental projects to decrease these imprints. Upon reading a truck rental contract with U-Haul, the fine print states that they are charging a small non-refundable fee to pay for the carbon credits you're going to emit. Where did they get permission for that? I didn't ask for penance courtesy of my wallet.

I love the environment. Nature is one of the most beautiful things we have that we can still enjoy for free. Going to school in a conservation structure, I understand how important it is to take care of the world around us. Donating money to sites for alleged carbon prints that no one really understands is not going to take care of good old Mother Earth.

Environmental counseling is being provided at outrageous prices offered by people not licensed in anything but their intuition. It provides a place for you to look like a moron while you connect with the soil and rocks that provide the foundation of your planet. You speak with the elements and beg for forgiveness so when you have to get in your SUV to go home you won't feel so bad.

There are bigger and better projects out there to spend your money on that you will actually be able to see the results from. You can even jump in and get hands on! After all, if you are so worried about the planet, shouldn't you spend more time with it?

The number one way to help your environment is to simply plant a tree. Plant a tree for every person in your house. Young trees are very cheap to purchase from your local nurseries (will cost you less than environment counseling by a long shot). They are easy to plant and do not demand a ton of care.

Trees naturally absorb carbons and release that thing we like to breath; oxygen. Another thing to consider a problem; wind turbines. Driving cross country a lot of the beauty was lost from fields upon fields of these giant horrendous things. Most weren't even being spun by the wind. They cost us more on our electric bill and what are we to do if there is a huge outage? We have to wait for each one to be fixed before it can start to generate enough power since they work on a grid. Cities will be left useless.

Maybe if we stop expending our natural resources out of greed and the bigger better deal in life, there wouldn't appear to be a crisis. More simply, we could replenish those natural resources and just plant a tree.

    Nature IS beautiful.

    It's so...natural!

And I haven't driven my car in 4 days. When I ride to work, I get 30 miles to the peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

No need for environmental stress counseling here!
