f.w.
These small, beautiful, delicate bulbs give us the first wake-up call to Spring. They emerge on very thin stems and produce vibrant-colored blooms from white, bright yellow, pinks, reds and purples. They look brilliant is planted under a tree or in a sunny border.

If you want a rich carpet of pale lilac or purple try C. Tommasinianus
If you want winter flowering species try C Imperati (white), C Chrysanthus (purple), C Susianus (yellow)

Spring-flowering Dutch hybrids are the most pupular blooming slightly later in the season and they have much larger flowers. This form is also known as the "large-flowering" crocuses.

Crocuses thrive in any well-drained soil in sun or in light shade. Overcrowded clumps should be divided in the Fall which will give you more plants to find a home for in your garden.

CHORES:

Gravel in between rockery plants to supress weeds and for good drainage

Clear weeds from the base of hedges

Plant new roses

Finish winter pruning apple and pear trees

Order in your summer-flowering bulbs

Clip back ivy and remove from windows or gutters

Continue to dig your ground and add compost

Tie in new growth on blackberries

Sow maincrop tomatoes for planting in greenhouses during May
