Planting the Right Flowers and Herbs in your Garden: Matching the Soil to the Roots
English Mace grows best in loam but it can grow in and sand and chalk.
Yarrow is best for planting in sand. You can also plant it in clay, chalk and loam.
Anise hyssop, can be planted in loam and chalk but by planting in sand you will get better results.
Lady's Mantle can grow in sand, chalk and clay , but by planting in loam you will get better results.
Garlic keep in mind when planting keep in mind it can grow alright in sand and chalk but planting in loam is best.
Aloe, grows the best in sand but can be planted in chalk.
Lemon Verbena can grow in chalk and loam but by planting in sand it can reach its full potential.
Angelica; by planting in loam it can develop beautifully, but can be planted in clay.
Dill is best grown in loam but can be matured in sand and chalk.
Horseradish when planted in loam flourishes, but it can grown in sand, clay and chalk.
Arnica grows best in sand but can be planted in chalk or loam.
Sweet Annie; by planting in sand it grows wonderfully. The seeds can be planted in chalk or loam as well.
Keep in mind when planting Wormwood it can grow in loam or chalk but grows best in sand.
When planting French Tarragon, sand is your best bet. But can survive in chalk and loam.
By planting Borage in sand it will produce greatly but it can be planted in chalk and loam.
Planting Box in loam will be your best bet. However it can also be placed in sand.
When Planting Caraway in sand it will develop nicely, chalk or loam are also ok choices.
Chamomile ; planting this in loam is the best environment but sand and chalk are satisfactory options as well.
Planting Goosefoot in loam will bring the best qualities of this plant out but, in sand or chalk you will get okay results.
Planting Coriander in loam gives best results. You can also plant it in sand or chalk.
Planting Sea Fennel in sand will give you better results than planting in loam.
When planting Lemon Grass either sand or chalk will work.
Cardoon; Planting this in loam will be your best bet, rather than sand.
Digitalis Floxglove can be planted in either clay or loam.
Planting Echinacea in sand is the best soil for this plant.
Planting Cardamom in sand will give you better results.
Wild Rosemary; Planting this sand will allow this plant to thrive.
By planting Wild Strawberry in loam you will get excellent results however it will grow in sand or clay.
Planting Ginkgo in loam is the best option for this plant.
Licorice; planting this in loam will allow it to grow beautifully.
By planting Juniper in loam you can guarantee it will grow healthy however if unavailable it will work to use sand or chalk.
French Lavender grows excellently in sand but is ok to gro in chalk or loam.
Lemon Balm can be planted in clay, chalk or loam, but planting in sand will be the best choice.
Spearmint can be planted in sand, clay or chalk but planting in loam is better.
Sweet Basil can be planted in loam but planting it in sand is better.
Evening Primrose; when planting sand is the best option but it will grow in clay, chalk and loam.
Parsley in loam will bring out the very best in this plant however it will grow in sand, clay and chalk as well.
Rosemary is best grown when planted insand, but will grow in chalk and loam.
Planting Sage in sand is the best idea. This plant will grow in chalk or loam as well but might not flourish as well.
Comfrey willl grow in sand, chalk, clay but grows best in loam.
Planting Feverfew,, in sand is the best soil for this plant. However planting this in chalk or clay it will grow fairly well.
Planting Creeping Red Thyme in sand is extremely healthy for this plant. Planting this in clay or chalk however, may not produce as good of results.
Sweet Violet is ideal for planting in loam however will work in chalk, clay or sand.

We have clay in our soil and this article really helped me out on what to look for in flowers this year. We are getting ready to start a vegetable garden as well so this should come in handy for that one also. Thanks for doing the homework, now I just gotta borrow it.
