Plantronics Xbox 360 HeadsetBasics
I ordered mine through Amazon.com for $9.99. Other retail prices can range up to $19.99. Amazon's price is about 10 dollars cheaper then the Microsoft standard headset. Plantronics Over the Ear Headset is wired and plugs into the Xbox 360 controller. It's black and green and a bit more stylish then Microsoft's. The headset is fully adjustable. You can arrange the mic and make the band bigger or smaller. There is also the ability to turn the sound setting louder, softer, or to mute. The volume setting is located on the wire that connects to the controller.
Plantronics Sound Quality
I have not heard any static or inference. Although, the volume doesn't seem to go as high as Microsoft's. There is a small issue with the mic. If you adjust it too close to your face, other gamers can hear you breathe. If you push it too far away, it gets difficult for them to hear you. Careful adjustments must be made in order for the volume and sound to be just right. Once you get the proper adjustment, the sound is great, clear, and consistent.
Plantronics Headset Comfort
Since the headset is adjustable, it's easy to find a comfortable setting. The Plantronics headset seems to be especially comfortable for women and children, as it adjusts smaller then the Microsoft one. The earpiece sits comfortably and isn't too tight or loose. The volume control can clip on to a shirt or wire making it easy to reach when needed. The controller wire is long enough that you won't worry about stretching or breaking it.
Finding a quality replacement for Microsoft's standard headset doesn't have to cost a fortune. I have found it online for the same price and cheaper then Microsoft's headset. If you don't mind a wired headset, the Plantronics Xbox 360 Over the Ear headset is a solid alternative. It is well made, stylish, and comfortable. The sound and microphone take a bit to find the correct adjustment, but once you do, your Xbox friends will hear you loud and clear.

Good review. A lot of the mics don't need to be in front of your mouth, just close to your cheek, so you can cut down the breathing sounds that way maybe. Plantronics is a good brand.
Thanks! Great resource.
