Plants: The Healthiest Foods

Craig Olson
Introduction

There are some plants that are toxic to eat. Avoid these foods. One of them is marijuana, which contains the neurotoxin THC. Marijuana is either smoked or eaten to get a "buzz". I do not recommend either. Another toxic plant is deadly nightshade, which contains the drug belladonna. Certain mushrooms are poisonous. "Magic" mushrooms are consumed to get a "high".

Flavonoids

My own theory is that flavonoids, which are plant pigments, may be useful as a treatment for schizophrenia. You will not find this theory in any book. It is only in my articles, which are referenced in the bibliography. The rationale behind this is very complex.

Tryptophan

I also have a theory that schizophrenia and depression are both caused by a flooding of the cells with tryptophan. This is compatible with the flavonoid theory because a toxin causes the transport error in tryptophan. That toxin is DMPEA.

Tryptophan is found in protein. Animal products are rich in both protein and cholesterol. Animal products are also rich in saturated (bad) fats which can produce cholesterol. My recommendation is a diet low in tryptophan. This diet is vegan because plant products, except for soybeans, are relatively lower in protein than carnivorous foods.

Is Schizophrenia Organic?

The answer is "Yes!" Does nutrition affect the brain? The answer is "Yes!"

"The ultrastructural analysis of tissue morphological alterations through electron microscopy techniques constitutes an instrument of undoubted value to deepen in the pathogenic studies of diseases. Especially in the field of neuropsychiatry pathology it has been an important element to figure out the complex mechanisms in the genesis of the different pathological, inflammatory, immunologic and neoplastic processes, and in the definition of particular entities." Segundo Mesa Castillo. Psychiatric Hospital of Havana.

"The results obtained can constitute a biological marker for schizophrenia ..." Mesa

Mesa studied blood platelets of Cuban and Spanish schizophrenics. He foudn that the platelets were much larger than normal. He found glycogen accumulation, suggesting a partial failure in glucose metabolism. My own view is that the giant platelets suggest that some macronutrients are flooding the cells. My theory is that amino acids are the culprits.

Conclusions

Mesa reported the "presence of inclusion bodies" and the "presence of big vacuoles in platelets with fibrillar material". This demonstrates that schizophrenia is organic. For this reason psychotherapy and psychoanalysis are limited in thier effectiveness although they do no harm. Only recently has nutrition been considered as a treatment in mental disease. This was suggested by Adelle Davis and later propounded by Linus Pauling. Unfortunately they are both deceased. Today Hoffer, Kunin, and myself are advocating this.

The use of plant foods is also good in fighting cardiovascular disease and possibly cancer. Vitamin C is found in plant foods, and Linus Pauling thought that it had anticancer properties. Flavonoids, only found in plant foods, are thought to have anticancer properties according to studies.

Since plant foods have fiber, they are good for fighting obesity. Fiber has no calories.
