Plastic Jungle Review

A Place for Your Unwanted Gift Cards

Paula Myers
Plastic Jungle is an online website where you can buy, sell, or trade pre-owned gift cards. The membership is free. Statistics from a gift card survey show the following information about gift cards. In 2005, 27 % of people with gift cards, didn't use them. In 2006, 19 % of people with gift cards didn't use them. And 39 % of those people didn't use them because there wasn't anything they wanted or needed in that particular store. Plastic Jungle would really come in handy for all the people that don't use their gift cards.

One thing I noticed is that the gift cards for sell, are sold at a discounted price. For example, there is a $100 Victoria's Secret gift card selling for $92.00 You can find a bargain on this site. The gift cards for trade are pretty well even trade, dollar for dollar amount. For example, there is a $30.00 Kohl's card listed for trade, where the gift card holder wants a $30.00 CompUSA or Fry's Electronic gift card.

There are a large variety of gift cards available on Plastic Jungle. The following are the categories of gift cards listed on the website. I've also listed some of the cards.

I Just bought a $130 gift card from plastic jungle- when they sent me the eCODE for the gift card it was in an email that said to click this link in order to get to the code. There was no link. I have tried calling and emailing them. Now I'm more afraid that they are going to use my credit card information than anything else. Does anyone have success stories of how to get refunded? I'm going to call my bank in the morning and change my credit card number as well as dispute any charges from them. Most credit cards have buyer protection when you purchase something on the internet with your credit card. Mine does so that should be helpful...I feel so dumb to be tricked by them.

I just got scammed. I bought a father's day GC to Lowe's for $46.50 (face value to $50). It arrived about a week later. I checked the balance on the card before I prepare the father's day gift for my husband. The card was INVALID. Also, when you call customer service you get a voicemail and redirects you to their website. When you email them on their customer service email, the email was returned undeliverable. The only means of contacting them, besides US mail is by completing an on-line form. I am so disappointed and will never use plastic jungle again. I feel duped after ten years or so of safely shopping on-line.

I forgot to say that I think if I was sending cards to them I would do it registered mail. A little extra but lots of piece of mind.

I read the reviews and I was a little put-off. The card I was selling was only $35 so I decided to give it a try. I chose direct deposit to my PayPal but it didn't go through. After 2 calls to a CSR named Scott, the payment posted oneday late. They don't always pick up their phones and the web help is very slow but I did get good service from their live help desk when my call was answered. Overall, I would say it's like Vegas, don't bet more that you are willing to lose!.

PLASTIC JUNGLE "LOST" THE APPLE GIFTCARD I SENT THEM. They have my giftcard number and refuse to give it back. They owe me $518 or my giftcard. Also, when you call customer service you get a voicemail. They do not call back but tell you to go online.
BEWARE OF PLASTIC JUNGLE..THEY ARE A SCAM!!!

I recently made two transactions with PJ. The first I purchased 2 GC's to Lowe's, each card was to have $25 on it. The following day I ordered 4 GC's to Ticketmaster (3 with $25 and 1 with $50). The received the first order about a week later--no issues, cards had the correct balance and used them the following weekend. I received my 4 TM GC's about a week later as well. The three cards with $25 balance were correct. The card that was to have $50 on it only had $25. I contacted PJ that day by email. I was referred to the website to make contact, I re-entered my complaint on the website and received contact back in about 5-6 hours with a form to fill out requesting refund. I completed the form and submitted it the next day. I received a reply to my refund request within a day and they said they would credit my credit card back the difference of the GC. I received my refund within about 3-4 days. I was a little nervous after reading several bad reviews, but my

....the numbers and then spend the $$$ after they sell the company the card. This is quite sad that people out there are so dishonest. I realize now that this was not necessarily Plastic Jungle's fault, I admit it is very inconvenient and now I hesitate to purchase more cards. I have to say that their staff was friendly and handled the issue well. Their guarantee is golden which protects the card purchaser but you will have to possess a good degree of patience. I hope this helps someone ot there debating whether to use the service. My other cards worked fine and I saved some good money. The concept of buying and selling gift cards is great but there are still a lot of kinks in the system. You can save a great deal of money over time but it is not without an occasional hassle.

This is a follow-up to my post from 1/5/2011. I criticized them in the post for their slow response but I have to be fair and provide a follow up to the actions taken. I finally got a call back from Plastic Jungle's customer service after the second message I left. They resolved my issue profesionally and promptly. As a recap I received 3 cards with a $0 balance. I was feeling quite ripped off and when did did not respond after a day and a half I was getting nervous. They did apologize and they e-mailed me an affidavit that I had to fill out for each card. Within a few days they credited the full amount back to my credit card. The representative told me that they are currently trying to resolve the issue of cards being cashed out after they are sold to them. They are currently trying to work out a way to be able to reissue a new card with a new number so that someone who sold them the card won't be able to use it. It is my understanding that someone could write down

Plastic Jungle is one of the WORST online companies I've encountered in 15 years of internet usage.

I've had two awful experiences with Plastic Jungle. Why I didn't learn my lesson the first time, I couldn't say.

    1) Placed an order for a card. Days later I got an e-mail telling me that they couldn't find the card that I ordered, so they were "canceling" the order and crediting my paypal account with the purchase amount. Then, almost a week later, I got an e-mail from plastic jungle telling me that they had FOUND the card, so they had taken it upon themselves to "re-open" the previously "canceled" order, re-charge my account, and ship the card to me. Ridiculous! What kind of company handles orders like this?

    2) Well, as mad as I was... I thought I'd give it one more shot to try and save some money on a large online purchase by ordering some electronic gift card codes from plasticjungle and then using the codes on the retaile

  • Buyer Beware!!!1/5/2011

Horrible!!! I tried this site because I heard about them in the news. Now I’m thinking I made a big mistake. I ordered 9 gift cards in various amounts and when I tried to use the first one it was $0. It was a $300 card and I have zip! So far I have not been able to reach a representative and have left 2 messages. I even e-mailed them and no response. I feel duped. I read other comments on other sites about balances going to zero even though they initially contained funds, I think I’m going to go shopping immediately to offload the good cards ASAP. Even if I get my money back I’m not shopping with them anymore.
