Play the Christmas Tree Relay Decorating Game

Games are fun to play anytime of the year, but especially during the holidays when lots of family members arrive for the holidays. Since you will have plenty of extra people around for your family's gathering, why not play the Christmas tree relay decorating game. The idea of the game is simple and fun.

GET THE TREES AND DECORATIONS: Get two small or medium size artificial Christmas tree to decorate. You will need to get metallic garland, strings of lights, and ornaments for each tree. You can choose the colors and types of decorations that you want.

FORM THE TEAMS: On the day of your Christmas party, split everyone up into two teams. Make the teams fair. If there are kids split them up on the teams evenly. If there are two people in your family who are very decorative and crafty, split them up on the opposite teams. Split the men up evenly on the teams as well. Make the teams seem as fair as possible.

HOW THE RELAY GOES: Let everyone know the rules of the game. Tell them that they need to break up into even groups to do each section of the relay race. Let them know that there will be three sections to the relay race. The first sections will be the "hang the lights group", that group will have to get the lights on the tree, half way neatly, not just throw them on, then they will run back to tag the next group. The next group will be the "hang the garland group", then will neatly get the garland on the tree, then run back to tag the next group. The final group will be the "hang the ornaments group", then will have to get all of the ornaments provided onto the tree before running back and yelling "Finished". Let them know that they need to be as neat as possible, because not only does the fastest time count, but the neatness of the tree counts in winning the Christmas tree relay game.

WINNERS: You will be the judge of the relay race game. You will not only decide which team finished their tree first, but included will be the decision of who did the best job on their tree. If the fastest group did the best decorating job then they are hands down, the winners. If the slower team decorated their tree better, then you will need to make a decision on who should actually win the contest. This is why it is so important to stress to each team that they do their best on the decorating of the trees.
