Wanna try a reminiscent scent for your next cologne? Who can forget that plastic doughy smell that accompanied each fresh can of Play-Doh? Well, the scent of Play-Doh has been captured in a cologne bottle, according to a recent article. Play-Doh cologne spray is now available at demeterfragrance.com and is expected to hit stores this summer, the article stated. Demeter also makes perfume in Chocolate Chip Cookie, Mojito, Lemonade, and Cotton Candy scents.
The limited-edition fragrance comes as part of a year-long celebration of the modeling compound's 50th birthday, according to research. Hasbro, who makes Play-Doh, said that one of the product's most notable characteristics is its scent.
The fragrance joins other special products and events meant to celebrate the milestone birthday of the beloved clay. Young Play-Doh artists can have a party any day of the year with a new Play-Doh birthday product. In honor of the company's 50th, "Food Network's" celebrity chef Warren Brown from the t.v. show "Sugar Rush" made a Birth-Doh cake. As part of the anniversary Hasbro is also conducting an instant-win promotion.
"The scent is more likely to bring back memories of childhood than make men swoon, the company concedes," said writer William Freebairn. "The smell of a freshly opened can of Play-Doh is somewhat reminiscent of a cleanser because it was originally born out of efforts to develop wallpaper cleaner."
In their announcement, Hasbro stated that the perfume would probably appeal to more creative types seeking nostalgic from their childhood. "It's definitely more of a fun, nostalgic thing," said Courtney Curzi of Hasbro's public relations firm. During the product's 40th anniversary they unveiled moldable soap.
Play-Doh had been tested and introduced in 1955, a year before being developed, in nursery schools, kindergartens, and select schools. Noah and Joseph McVickers, the inventors of Play-Doh, were granted their patent in 1965. In 1960 the first rendition of Play-Doh Pete, a boy with a beret, had been introduced.
Believe it or not, there is a National Play-Doh Day which is Sept. 18th.
