Well the thing is, many Network Marketers are taught to call their friends, family and neighbors. They are told to make a list of all the people they have ever known, and don't forget to use the memory jogger. You may have been told to talk to anyone who comes within 3 feet of you and other ways of approaching people with your products or opportunity.
While all these methods are possible ways to generate an interest in what you have to offer, for most people in network marketing, they simply don't work as well as you want them to. Why?
To answer that you have to think about human nature. Don't we all run when we are being chased? Don't we all hate it when a salesperson or telemarketer calls? Because we have become so accustomed to advertisements and sales calls, we are sick of the pitches and have literally learned to tune them out - even if it's very useful or beneficial information for us to hear. It has almost gotten to a point that if someone approaches us first, it's a turn off. And, with the majority of families having internet access, when we really want something don't we just go looking for it? We don't sit around and wait for someone to call us and present it to us, we search for it and find it for ourselves. Heck, I don't even use a phone book anymore, I just turn to the internet for whatever it is I'm after. Then, think about how busy everyone is. Free time has almost become a thing of the past for many families. With the average family needing at least 3 jobs to get by, time has become one of the hottest commodities in America today. So if we're so short on time, we also don't have the time to sit and listen to someone else's 'great idea', especially when it wasn't something we were seeking out on our own.
Okay, back to 'playing hard to get' and what it means for your network marketing business success. I'm sure you know that the harder something is to attain, the higher it's value is. Though the true value of it is only in the perception of it. What I mean is that because something is a rare find, it is perceived to have greater value. And, if you stumbled upon it on your own, you feel like you've just hit the biggest lottery in history. Think about an autographed baseball card. It has more value than one that is not signed. And, if it's a rookie card that is signed...wow the value just shoots up like crazy. And, if you found it, you feel like it's the luckiest day of your life. But if you really think about it, all of these cards are just ink printed on heavy paper. They all have the players names and stats. So physically there's really no difference. The only difference at all is in the perceived value.
Now, your home based business opportunity does need to be attainable and so do your products. The problem is, if they are too attainable, they have little or no value to your prospect. So you must play hard to get. The simplest way to do this is with Attraction Marketing.
Attraction marketing is the key to exploding your business. What this means is you 'flirt' a little by promoting and marketing yourself as an industry leader. Then you 'play hard to get' when you use qualifying questions to get to know your prospect better and to see if they will qualify for what you have to offer them. You must show the prospect that you are not willing to work with just anyone...you are looking for that 'certain someone' who is worth your time and effort. By doing business this way, you are giving it added value and you become very 'attractive' to your prospect because they know they are dealing with an expert who can show them how to succeed. This can literally make your business explode with people who are dying to join you a! nd work with you. And, what do you think happens when they find you first? They feel like they just hit the big jackpot. Suddenly you and your opportunity/products have an incredibly high value. When this happens, the prospect has practically sold themselves on your offer, often before you've even talked with them about it. So go to it, use attraction marketing and start 'flirting' a little by marketing yourself as the expert you are. I think you'll find it a very fun and rewarding way to get your network marketing business off the ground.
