"Play For Japan" Japan Relief Effort

David Leavitt
A group of game developers and publishers such as Sega, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Double Fine are auctioning off their rarest items on eBay to raise as much money as possible for the relief efforts in Japan. The initiative is called Play for Japan.

Play for Japan gives gamers the opportunity to bid on rare and collectible items like a life-size statue of the Ghost character from"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", an official Bayonetta costume, or a customized "Comic Jumper" branded Xbox 360 with 150 Xbox LIVE Arcade games. Those are just a few highlights in a long list of items that includes game bundles, signed games and artwork. Here's a chance to completely geek-out and raise money for Japan at the same time!

A list of items currently available for auction is available at www.playforjapan.org. Anyone can bid on them directly on eBay. All Play for Japan auctions will be clearly marked in the eBay auction title and description, and all Play for Japan auctions will explicitly state in the description that 100% of proceeds are being donated to charity.

So far the initiative has raised more than $10,500, and auctions continue! 100% of auction profits go to organizations like the American Red Cross, Global Giving, International Medical Corps, Save the Children and UNICEF to help support those affected by the tragedy in Japan.

For more information, visit the official Play for Japan blog at http://www.playforjapan.org, or check out the official Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr pages. Follow the conversation on Twitter using the #playforjapan hashtag.
