Play Kitchens: Using Them to Educate Toddlers and Preschoolers at Home
How to Make Play Kitchens Fun, Exciting, and Educational
In addition to a play kitchen, it is also advised that you have play kitchen accessories on hand. These items can include pots, pans, aprons, oven mitts, play food, and so forth. If you do not already own these items, although there is a good chance that you do, you can find these play kitchen accessories affordably priced in many retail stores, both on and offline.
As for using a play kitchen to educate your toddler or preschooler from home, you will find that there are a number of approaches that you can take. Before examining these preschool activities, it is important to mention fun. As a parent, you will want to use any opportunity possible to educate your child, but you will not want to go into overdrive. The worst thing that you can do is turn an otherwise fun preschool activity into one that your child dreads.
One of the many ways that you can turn a play kitchen into an educational adventure is by "cooking," with your child. In addition to free play cooking, you may want to create simple recipe cards, which can easily be done with blank index cards. Even if your child cannot read, you can help them prepare the ingredients in one of their play pots or pans. Just be sure that your recipes include play food that your child has. This can allow your child to familiarize themselves with different food ingredients, including vegetables. You can also help them sharpen their multi-tasking skills.
Even the smaller sized play kitchens come with a few cupboards or storage spaces. What you will want to do is ask your child to help you put away all of the foods. When doing so, you will want to ask your child about the food item that they are putting away. Or, you can explain each item to them. You may want to show excitement or place most of your focus on healthy foods, such as fruits and vegetables. This familiarization of food is important to toddlers and preschoolers.
If you do not already own a play kitchen, you may want to take the time to examine them. They are ideal for both boys and girls. Depending on the brand, new play kitchens can be expensive; therefore, you may want to checkout your local thrift stores or yard sales.
