Playboy Might Be Getting Some Competition from Girls Gone Wild

When you think of scantily clad women posing for photographs Playboy Magazine, and Hugh Hefner is usually the first thing that comes to peoples minds. Girls Gone Wild is hoping to change that. Girls Gone Wild will be publishing a new magazine, featuring editorials, and pictures of the "Girls Gone Wild Girls", different events, and its own DVD.

Playboy was fist published in 1953, by the infamous Hugh Hefner. Since then Playboy has come a long way. Today Playboy is the largest selling mens magazine, selling about three million copies per month in the US. Playboy has featured a lot of well known celebrities from their very first cover featuring Marlyn Monroe. Since then they have many other celebrities. Actresses such as Drew Barrymore and Denise Richards. They have even had athletes such as Katarina Witt and Gabrielle Reece. Playboy has even become more mainstream with thing like the TV show on E!, Girls Next Door, which features Hugh Hefner and his Girlfriends.

Girls Gone Wild was started by Joe Francis with barely legal girls baring their chests for cameras at places like spring break. Girls Gone Wild has become popular with its DVDs, Videos, and its web site, with girls baring more and more of themselves, and often the cameras following them back to their rooms taping them in additional sexual activities. Girls Gone wild magazine will go on sale April 15th for 9.99 an issue. Girls Gone Wild has been the subject of some bad press, with speculation about the girls being coerced into doing this, and with founder Joe Francis being locked up for failing to document the ages of the girls appearing in the videos.

So will Girls Gone Wild magazine be able to compete with the long time running and well known Playboy magazine. Girls Gone Wild will be targeting a younger audience aiming an young men aged 18-35. While Playboy is often thought of as "your fathers" magazine. Its doubtful that Girls Gone Wild will get the celebrity backing that playboy has. I can't really imagine celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Jenny McCarthy, or Mariah Carey posing on the cover of Girls Gone Wild. I think Girls Gone Wild will find a new following of younger readers (or lookers), but I doubt that they will take much business from Playboy. I don't think Playboy is going to be affected by a new magazine. I think they have a very large base of readers and fans that they might not even notice a new mens magazine.
