The Kahuna spell caster class comes from the Gaia race on Rappelz. The human-based Gaia race focuses on Earth-based spells, such as manipulating the elements. Kahunas are spell casters, but they also have a warrior element to them. That is what is attractive about playing Kahunas: they can do a little bit of everything. That can also be a downfall because with so many options, where do you start with a Kahuna? This guide will help.
Get a pet. Absolutely get a pet first. You can get a Pantera to assist in damage or a Tortoise to help take a hit. Regardless, pick one of the two. Kahunas can use good weapons like axes and maces, but they don't get the greater damage-dealers in Rappelz like swords. And if Kahunas have a weakness, it is physical defense. Face it: Kahunas are "squishy" as they say in Rappelz. Pets can make great equalizers in that respect, though. Start with a pet early and you'll thank yourself later.
Equip A Two-Handed Axe. The two-handed axe is the best weapon for a Kahuna because later on down the road your Kahuna warrior will get bonus attack speed for using it. Sure, a staff looks tempting because of the magic attack, but early-level Kahunas won't need to cast damage spells. Two-handed axes are the best. The spinning blow and smite skills can be used with the two-handed axe.
Get the Enchant Weapon: Earth (EWL) and Enchant Weapon: Water (EWW)skills. You only need to up the EWW skill to one level just so you can get the Restore Purifying Water spell later on, but the EWL is the best spell you can get to really do some damage. Not only does EWE put an extra hurt on mobs (+36 at level 3), there is a 10% chance you stun the mob, rendering it unable to attack for a few seconds. If your pet is attacking with you, the mob dies even faster.
Grow job skill levels at a slow and steady pace. The most useful Kahuna spells come at Job Level 25 with Rock Energy and Sacred Fire (they will be explained later). Since you'll need a few other spells first, focus on hitting skill level 10 and getting the Restore Water, EWL, Defense Practice and Combat Skills to at least level 3. From there make it a direct march to Job Level 25. Kahunas gotta heal and fight for themselves before anyone else in Rappelz!
Focus your job skills on heals and buffs. Now that you've hit Job Level 25, you are ready to rock n' roll. Kahunas have great spells that can control a crowd. You could be tempted early to get spells like Shackle of the Ground and Dark Water Seal. But those are good spells if you plan on going into dungeons and dungeon parties, which shouldn't happen until you reach the 40s. Instead, focus on working towards your buffs like Forces of Sacred Fire, which increases your physical attack, and Rock Energy, which increases the Physical defense for long periods of time. But even before you get those,Restoring Purified Water will be your lifesaver. It doesn't take long to get it to level 3 which will heal you almost 500 hit points in each use!
Do the city quests a few at a time. The quests in the major cities (Horizen, Lasky and Katan) are awesome for Kahunas at first because you get useful rewards such as chips and potions and, most importantly, job points. Do a few quests at a time in one given city and move on. If you go all the way through one city's quests before moving to the next, your levels may be too high to benefit from the experience points and job points gained.
25 and Beyond. By following these guidelines, your Kahuna will be a wanted man-in a good way- once you are ready to take on dungeons. After hitting job level 25 and upping your buff spells 3 levels, start adding on Support of Gust, Mental Concentration, and Chainsickle Wind. Chainsickle Wind is handy because your quests will start to require taking down one single boss mob. By slowing down his attack speed and movement with Chainsickle Wind he can't get away so quickly! When you get closer to Level 40, pile on the crowd-control spells so that you can come into a dungeon to serve in many different roles. In Rappelz, flexibility is everything and Kahunas are the most flexible.

Post a CommentMost kahunas decide to become druids instead of battle kahunas upon reaching a high enough level to choose an advanced job. Druids have better crowd control and healing at the expense of having a lower damage output. But when some other classes can out-damage kahunas by a factor 2-3 at high levels, damage becomes less of a primary issue for the class.
