Playing Soccer

A Poem

Pattie Byrd
Standing out here in my snazzy little suit,
Playing soccer on the field while looking so cute.

My teammates running madly rushing around
While I stand in one spot staring at the ground.

Crowds cheering wildly while watching the game,
I feel sad for them because watching can't be the same.

The others run around trying to get the ball.
Ooh, poor thing, that one took quite a fall.

Look at that one, bounced the ball off her head.
She's going to need an aspirin before she goes to bed.

The ball is being passed, now coming on down.
Not much between us but a small piece of ground.

My teammate is passing the ball and looking at me.
I see the sphere as it bounces off her knee.

Wait a minute. You don't really want me to play,
I'm just filling a spot for the one who couldn't stay.

Don't kick it to me! I don't know what to do,
And I really don't want to mess up my brand new shoe.

The soccer ball is coming; I better act fast.
I should have known my soccer days couldn't last.

I close my eyes and kick, hoping my foot will react.
Unfortunately, I now know how Mighty Casey felt at bat.

How funny...sounds like me at soccer. My daughters soccer team was more like "sock her" than soccer. Rougher than football.
