Playoffs Vs. BCS in College Football

The Professor
The big question in college football has always been should there be playoffs or should the BCS system stay the way it is? The answer is simple for everyone not involved in the bureaucracy. The answer is clearly the playoff system. I know the big officials will tell you that it will affect the athlete's studies. But, before you listen to that argument let's examine the fact that the current bowl season stretches over multiple weeks in which athletes must continue practicing to get ready for a almost a meaningless game.
One reason for a playoff system is look how well it works in every other major sport. It creates excitement that can't be found in the current bowl system. It also gives more meaning to the season because with a playoff system more teams would qualify for a chance at winning the national championship.
Playoffs would also allow the underdogs a chance to win the National title. Let's face it Americans love rooting for the underdogs. That's why we love wild card teams. That's why we love expanding the playoffs every time it is done in any sport.
In terms of finance having a playoff system could allow some of the smaller programs to get more publicity and therefore earn some extra cash. But, isn't that one of the reasons they keep the bowl system is because it is so lucrative for the powerful programs. Well, I say it is time the smaller fish got a bite of the money.
Shouldn't undefeated teams get at least a chance to play for the Championship well guess what small schools according to the bigger programs your dirt. I know this because according to the current system you can be perfect and take a difficult non-conference schedule and still not earn a chance to win the national championship.
So I feel that until there is a playoffs system like every other sport including other college sports, we can no longer call it the national championship. Instead, let us call is the championship of big school bullies.
