Playstation 3 Will Be Ready for Online Play Right Out of the Box

Sony says that Playstation 3 will be ready to play over internet networks straight out of the box when it is released in November. Sony clearly means to compete with Microsoft's Xbox, but also indicates that the move to interactivity is also based upon upgradeability and adaptability. The intention is to create a system of games that are no longer considered complete upon release to stores, but that can be enhanced via online online downloads.

He also indicated that the evolution toward connectivity will revolutionize the game design industry, forcing companies to create games that can be upgraded and enhanced rather than resulting in completely new versions every year or so.
