Playstation Move, or Xbox 360 Kinect?
A Battle Ensues that Has the Potential to Shake the Very Ground We Gamers Walk On
Microsoft Kinect,
* The Microsoft Xbox Kinect gameplay design features hands free total motion sensing control over your games
* The Microsoft Xbox Kinect design features a new inventive way of controlling your multimedia and social networking.
* The Microsoft Xbox Kinect design is an innovative new approach to the idea of the Eye Toy.
PlayStation Move,
* The PlayStation Move features realtime motion detection at the flick of the wrist you can make your player simulate any kind of motion.
* The PlayStation Move features single handed game play design allowing you to sit more comfortably while you play.
* The PlayStation Move features a new interface for your web browsing, multimedia and social networking the wand like device can be used similar to a mouse.
=> So far they both look good right? So lets take a look at the flaws of each design.
Microsoft Kinect,
* The Microsoft Xbox Kinect gameplay design means forward motion requires the player to run in place so no more relaxing on the couch not with these games.
* The Microsoft Xbox Kinect gameplay design could potentially mis read movments or make some things unnessesarily complicated.
PlayStation Move,
* You must hold the controllers in your hands to play your games.
* You again have no easily controllable movement and it requires the user to have a properly setup camera much like the eye toy.
Conclusion,
So to summarize it's apparent that the Wii mote still stands tall as the only technology currently available allowing motion sensing, without the use of a camera, and the battle between Sony and Microsoft is getting heated. While both of these systems feature heavy processors, and are capable of superb display graphics.
I would put money on Sony for now because Sony has a hard drive in every console, more powerfull hardware, and more interesting social networking features, as well as browsing and multimedia, and we can't forget the Blu-ray comes free where as it's an add on for the Xbox.
However, Microsoft still has the power to make a nasty come back by implementing a Hard Drive in every console, which seems to be just what they have done with their new slim line of Xbox, and so the battle continues. Unfortunately ultimately without the expansion capabilities of Blu-Ray or HD DVD the Xbox loses credibility as a multimedia platform.

Of course i could have put all this into the article but I wanted to keep it short and sweet and note the pros and cons of just the Move and Kinect and not involve the other systems or designs into it... This is a direct comparison of Kinect and Move not Kinect and Eye Toy in which case the Kinect would easily win out the Eye Toy due to the 3 cameras which allow it to create a 3D animated rendering of you rather then plastering your pasty white on the screen. In my opinion this is a significant improvment.
Not using the controllers turns the Move into an Eye Toy plain and simple which was already promoted once and failed miserably in the whole of the Eye toys existence maybe 30 games at most where ever produced to use it and people didn't buy them.
I mentioned that both these technologies are based on the Eye Toy obviously I know that already, and I never said that this couldn't be done on the Eye toy, and the Eye Toy failed prematurely because the people weren't into it as much as Sony had hoped . Which is why it's so interesting that both Microsoft and Sony are back to this approach, seeing as it has already failed once. The design of the Move controllers is such that you would play your games much like the Wii, with the added element of depth perception on the camera. Giving true 3D coordinates as long as the lighting is proper that is, and the camera remains unobstructed. The eye toy failed for the same reasons the Kinect is likely to fail. The only improvement Microsoft has made is that they have a 3D image of you and can render an animated 3D scaled image to the screen based on the 3 dimensions of the camera. And the move does require you to use the controllers because without those controller it's not a Move anymore.
um.... what the heck? Everything you state as possible on Kinect has been possible on the Playstation since the PS2 EyeToy. Do some research, since you come across as a joke.
And this flaw for Move?
"it requires the user to have a properly setup camera much like the eye toy."
How do you think Kinect works? By Camera... no shit.
"You must hold the controllers in your hands to play your games."
No... you don't. You can still play games without controllers, again, possible since the PS2 EyeToy... the camera Microsoft ripped off.
Plus for Move:
- Precision
- No lag
- Hardcore Games
- Buttons
Flaws for Kinect:
- Ps2 EyeToy ripoff
- No innovation
- No buttons
- Plagued with lag (game breaking)
- No precision
- Purely for kids, all flail.
Nice try... but not even close.
The truth hurts little xBiebers.
While we have been using controllers for years, I do consider that a disadvantage, because it has limitations on control functionality. You cannot do exactly as you would do in real life within your game, and buttons are limiting. It never seems like you have enough of buttons.
my preference is to not hold a controller. I was hoping to move over to full VR within my lifetime. It would be nice, but as long as the signals from your brain still make an action in the real world, it's not fully functional. However, these designs are a step in the right direction. I suppose if you had a 360 degree tread mil you could wear a helmet, and based on the current technology run through a virtual world, but it would just feel odd I would think...
what do u mean by u have to hold the controller in ur hands?! we have been doing that 4 ages so I don't think it is a disadvantage
The PS Move is 1.1. This has been shown at E3 2010..... The PS Move has a massive game line up coming out for it, more than what Kinect has.....
More developers are working on the PS Move than they are with Kinect...... The PS Move is for Hardcore and Casual gamers and can be added to games already on the market, Example = LBP......
Kinect is not for Hardcore gamers and cannot be added to games already on the market..... PS Move allows Wii games to come over to PS3, in FULL HD due to the controller tech an design..... Kinect is only a TWO PLAYER ( Even though it can see six people ) and only Kinect games will work on it now that MS pulled back on the built-in processor.....PS-Eye has already done what Kinect is trying to do with FULL BODY GAMING WITH NO CONTROLLER ( http://www.kungfulivegame.com/ ).....
Look at the specs of Kinect, you see that the camera doesn't go over 640 @ 30fps, while PS-Eye is at 640 @ 60fps. Kinect even at 320 is still @ 30fps while PS-Eye is 320 @ 120fps..
Yeah I read that they supped up the slim lines and assumed it came with the HD as well... Lame that they didn't include it and yes Blu-Ray has most of the producers sadly... But that doesn't help microsofts case much the reality is that the product they now sell is just a revamped model of the Eye Toy
