PlayStation Poised to "Move" Past the Competition

Richard Banks
The gaming industry is abuzz over the next big thing to compete with the Nintendo® Wii. Since the Wii came to market, Nintendo has sold over 70 million units to date. Aside from the staggering numbers, Nintendo ® has created a new genre of gaming. Family gaming is a new concept which gets everyone from 6 to 106 enjoying everything from bowling to singing and dancing. Countless hours have and will be spent playing this family favorite.

Bring into the equation the PlayStation® Move, release date September 17, 2010. Sony has created a system similar to the Wii, but with more excitement. The functionality adds a level of simplicity. Gamers have a motion controller and plays games in front of the PlayStation® Eye. The system then transforms the movement onto the screen.

Is price a concern? Don't worry if you currently own a PlayStation®3. The only cost incurred is the Move controllers and the PlayStation® Eye. Currently Sony is offering these items along with a game, Sports Champions™ and a bonus game demo disc for $99. If you do not own a PlayStation®3, then a bundle is offered which includes the game bundle, a 320GB PlayStation®3 system and a DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller for $399.99.

Sony has released a healthy cache of games which are either PlayStation® Move compatible or a requirement of the PlayStation® Move. Select games such as Heavy Rain® and MAG ® will become compatible though a free system upgrade.

Another wildly popular new release is SingStar® Dance, release date November 2010. This game is designed for up to four players who can sing and dance with 1 or 2 microphones and PlayStation® Move controllers. You will be able to add special effects to your video feed back as well as share performances with My SingStar® Online. More exciting is the potential song list. There hasn't been official confirmation from PlayStation® as of yet, but here are some of the potential tracks:
