Playtime on the Stream

Trout Fishing Fun

Tina Herzog
There is nothing in this world that can bring total fulfillment like that of a day on the stream. The feelings are impossible to relay. If you've been-there-done-that, you understand. If you are dabbling in the idea of trout fishing; by all means do progress to the next step. If you are a beginner; here are a few tools to add to your tackle box.

Its 4:20 A.M. Your alarm is going off. This time though, you were waiting since 3:50 A.M. with anticipation. With the utmost zest in your step, you patiently get ready. Boots, waders, small tackle, ultralight rod, bait, license, ID, and a good friend are all the necessities you need.

Its 5:00 A.M. You are off to the stream. You are barely sitting still on the extra long ride. Joy overwhelms you as the location draws near. Your body is awaken with excitement as the destination arrives. Immediately, gathering your belongings, you head to the entrance point.

Its 5:15 A.M. You begin your soothing journey down to your favorite "hot" spot. You can't help but listen to all that nature has to offer. The flowing water is a peaceful median straight to your soul. The vibrant birds fluttering and squawking to the pounding of your heart. The beating grouse gives you a tempo. The flowing sounds of the tree helps the rhythms of your casts commence to perfection. Scurrying animals dance noisily on the embankments. You are taking in all the inspiring surrounding offers. Nature at its purest--strengthens and elongates each cast.

Its 5:40 A.M. You've hooked the first fight of the day. Your patient and rhythmic hunting has paid off. She is breathtaking as she emerges from the translucent water; giving you the first peek. Your senses heighten with the finality of bagging such an awesome creature. She fights with all her might, but she is yours.

Its 5:50 A.M. Your body is still shaking. Focusing again on the comfort of the stream against your waders; finding your rhythm once more. Now you notice the songs of the refreshing whispering wind. The blinding sun's rays sparkle a top the racing waters; reminding you that sunglasses should be remembered on one of these trips. The overcast morning doesn't promise dullness all day. The sun works overtime to pierce the eyes of those who doubt her.

Its 6:10 A.M. You slowly move toward the shoreline; trying not to disturb or invade. The flies and mosquitoes are starting to feed and interrupt your routine. As you exit the wetness, you grab for the lemon grass spray to deter the unwanted insects. Keep vigilant; trout are spooked by shadows--stay down while on the bank of the stream.

Its 6:30 A.M. You have came upon the next hole. Watching the water break, you cast in front of the rock's door, knocking to announce food has arrived. It is the home of Bart-the brown trout. He got away from you last time, remember? He broke your line...that pig. Today is the day you bring him home. The line tightens with a quick jerk! He greets you with aggression. Are you ready for the fight of your life?
