15 Songs that Should Be Banned from American Idol

Dani D.
American Idol has become one of the most popular shows in the United States and has changed pop culture. It has also made us hate some of the best songs too. Here are 15 of those songs:

1.) Fallin' by Alicia Keys
Yes, let's start with the worst. Has this song been used on ever season or what? "Auditioners" use this so much I can imagine just how nauseous the judges probably get when they find out someone is going to sing it. Hence my utter disappointment when Michelle Delamor decided to sing it as a Top 12 Girl in the Top 24. Even if she sang it good (She didn't) I didn't like it. They sing that song so much on Idol I would be mad to hear Alicia Keys sing it and it's her song.

2.) I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
Although I don't actually remember the auditions or performances from Idol of this song; I wouldn't want to hear it anyway. It is played in so many Karaoke Performances that singing it on Idol could actually be bad. Although I don't remember it Nikki Mckibbin from season 1 performed it.

3.) Fever by Peggy Lee
This song is such a cabaret styled song I can't understand why anyone would sing it considering Simon Cowell usually hates whenever anything is cabaret or like a lounge singer, but it's been used in season 6 and season 8. Now that Beyonce is using it in her new perfume commercial advertisements I bet there will be more uses of this song in the future, unless they ban it for the sake of us all.

4.) The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani
After the groups during Hollywood week of season 9 butchered this song I hope the only person I hear sing this song again is Gwen Stefani.

5.) Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson
Maybe it was used to remember the great talents of Michael Jackson during Hollywood week in the recent season, but to hear a bunch of people try to over sing such a great song was the worst.

6.) Against All Odds by Phil Collins/ Mariah Carey
When a voice like Mariah's covers a song we can expect it to be as good and sometimes better than the first, that's why no one gets mad when she does it, but Idol hope-fulls...I don't know. Paige Miles gave it a try during this season and was voted off soon thereafter. This song has also been used during seasons 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. Can someone please retire this song from the show?

7.) Superstar by The Carpenters and covered by Luther Vandross
"Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby!" It is amazing that Ruben Studdard, winner of season 2 was able to pull this off with Luther's version; other contestants should leave this one alone, because the minds of Americans are comparing you to Ruben.

8.) I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston
This must be the song that contestants turn to because they are scared to tackle "I Will Always Love You" either way Whitney Houston is a big voice that most just don't have. It has been performed on seasons 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. It's time for this one to be retired.

9.) Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin
Aside from the fact that this song is sung by one of the greatest voices recorded in American Pop Culture, it has been over used in general. Why contestants want to risk it with this I don't know. Even though this one is a rather toned down song from Franklin, it has gotten as Simon Cowell would say, "a bit annoying." Katie Stevens performed it this season during R&B week, and was told by Randy that vocally she seemed disconnected, which is evidence that this 42 year old song should probably be retired.

10.) Think by Aretha Franklin
Another Aretha Franklin song that has been performed on Idol too many times as if they could do it justice. Diana Degramo (season 3), Katherine McPhee (season 5), LaKisha Jones (Season 6) and recently Siobhan Magnus (season 9) have all tried this song on stage...let's see if Magnus is the last contestant standing.

11.) I Heard it Through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye
This song is so smooth, and as the kids of today would say, "It has so much swagger" that if the person who tries to sing it lacks in swagger, they will sound ridiculous. Andrew Garcia of this year's Idol hope-fulls has a great sound, but during the Hot 100's week on Idol he decided to depart from his smooth sound and ruin a good song, and almost ruined his chances of being a part of the Top 10. Garcia tried to be too cool and as most people know when you try to be something you are not you come off as corny. Not that he is un-cool, but he just tried too hard. Being that most American Idol contestants really aren't cool this smooth classic should be retired.

12.) My Cherie Amor by Stevie Wonder
If you watch season 9's audition process you might have seen the one fellow who sang "Kiss From a Rose" and was quickly denied a shot at Hollywood, upon hearing this he began singing "Laa la laa la laa la- laa la laa la laa la" which was from Stevie Wonder's classic, My Cherie Amor (or at least I hope so because if it was from Kiss From a Rose then that was very wrong). Well those La la's ruined everyone else's use of the song. Once an "auditioner" or contestant gets to the la la's all of America will think of that guy. (His exit was quite humorous because he kept singing the la-la's as if that was proof of his "wonderful" voice.

13.) Dangerously In Love by Beyonce
This song was used during season 6 and that was the last time it was used. It's not Beyonce's best song so Idol contestants just shouldn't use it.

14.) Any song by Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson was the first winner of American Idol. The first; unforgettable and never duplicated. Best person to look at for American Idol inspiration, but best songs to keep at Karaoke night or in your bedroom.

15.) Piece of My Heart- Janis Joplin
Used in season 1, 2, 4, 7, and 9 this song has also been through hundreds of auditions and several performances on Idol. This is another cover that could be as Simon would say, "Torturous" to listen to.
