I am a humble citizen of this great country and I am concerned with the path we have been taking over the last year or so. I fully realize that our great country is in the middle of a financial crisis that has taken a great toll on many people already. However, I must beg of you to slow down and think through what you are doing. Please take the time that is needed to do things correctly. If they are not done correctly, they will more than likely cause greater harm than good.
In reacting to the financial situation, a stimulus package was rushed through and passed into law. When the package was analyzed after the fact, it was discovered that there were many pet projects in the law that we were promised would no longer be allowed. Why was this still in the package? Many of them were snuck into the bill and those that were voting for the package did not have or did not take the time to read the entire package.
Now we have a health care overhaul in the work and the thing we hear out of the President and many others is how fast we must get this passed. This bill represents an overhaul of approximately 1/7 of the U.S. economy yet we were rushing it through. Several committees voted on versions of the bill in a matter of days, hardly time to read the 1000 plus pages of the bill. When controversial sections came up, law makers commented not to worry about them, this wasn't the final version of the bill. Stop! What do you mean don't worry about them? Your passing a version of the bill in committee with this language, of course we should be worried about it. If it is not analyzed and corrected now and the bill is not fully read by everyone, how do we make sure it's not part of the final bill?
Now we have the cash for clunkers program. While it has been wildly popular, it has cost three times as much as originally planned. This is not to mention the fact that it has been administered very poorly and many dealers are still waiting and wondering if they are going to get the money back that they fronted.
All that I am asking is that you all slow down a little bit and consider the affects of your actions. Take the time to properly read through the legislation your are passing. Take the time to make sure you have a full understanding of the situation and how your proposed solution will affect it.
Thank you for your time!
