Pledge This (2006): A Movie Review

National Lampoon's Pledge This is a comedy starring Paris Hilton as Victoria English, the rich president of Gamma Gamma. Gamma Gamma is a snobby sorority at South Beach College that decides to let social misfits pledge in order to win an FHM contest. Once the contest is won, Gamma Gamma humiliates the pledges, who in turn vow to get their revenge on Victoria English and Gamma Gamma. Warning: my movie review would contain plot spoilers if the movie actually had a plot.

I rented the movie because I find Paris Hilton mildly amusing. Plus I like Sarah Carter and Simon Rex so I figured the movie couldn't be that bad. As usual I was oh so wrong! As anyone who reads my reviews know, I have this incredible talent of picking out the worst movies ever. Actually I do occasionally watch a good movie but good movies aren't as fun to review as bad movies. But back to Pledge This...it is bad, very bad. I am pretty sure Pledge This is actually a Paris Hilton home video. There is a feeble plot somewhere on the video but the majority of it is a montage of Paris Hilton looking hot. Paris Hilton looking hot isn't entertaining to me since I am female and heterosexual. I am sure there are plenty of guys who will enjoy the Paris Hilton "striking a pose" scenes or maybe the random bare-breasted college student scenes but if that isn't your thing, don't waste your time on this movie.

Sarah Carter is the only interesting actress in the movie. She does a great job as Kristen Hass, the Gamma Gamma wannabe who changes her tune by the end of the movie. Simon Rex is absolutely terrible as Derek, Victoria's dimwitted boyfriend who falls for the lead social misfit for whatever reason. The character Derek has no redeeming qualities what so ever and Simon does an absolutely terrible acting job. I can just assume Simon Rex regretted signing up for this project and put no effort into the roll at all. Paula Garces plays Gloria Torrez, the lead social misfit who is actually smart, beautiful, and popular. I guess the only reason she is a social misfit is because she is a brunette. The only other well known actress in the movie is Bianca Lawson with a very small roll as Monique. I was waiting for her to shove a wooden stake into Victoria's heart at any moment but it just never happened. Such a shame because it would have been a major improvement in the plot.

I give the movie 1 star out of 5 stars. I am giving the movie 1 star because I did actually laugh a couple of times. I laughed at the sheer stupidity of the movie. I also laughed at Carmen Electra's cameo. She is the queen of cameos.
