Pledge to Stay in Touch

Living Will for the Missing?...Before They Go Missing

Todd Matthews
A way to bypass privacy issues to prevent a missing persons report from being filed? Waived by the missing persons themselves...before they go missing?

Basically -- I for one, as a responsible offspring, spouse and parent...do hereby waive any privacy issues preventing a search for me as soon as possible.

I do hope that a search for me, should I fall off the radar, will commence as soon as possible.

Like a living will, can I myself express my wishes before I go missing? It's easy to say..."he wouldn't just not come home..." -- what if I pledge this is in legal form? What if I willingly violate my own pledge? -- would their be a penalty?

A revelation? A publicity angle to get media coverage for the case in question? A real answer to the issue? -- I know it will stir debate...and debate usually helps spark progress.

How do you think this might be used in a situation? Might it help, hurt or be of no effect?

Is this something you would want to keep on file with your living will or other legal documents?

ARE YOU PREPARED?

No one ever thinks it could happen to them. No one expects they will ever go missing. But what if you do? Are you prepared? Are your family members or close friends prepared to provide the authorities with enough vital information to begin an immediate search for you? And will they have enough vital information on hand at this time of crisis when this information is so important to have?

Most laws require a waiting period of 24 - 48 hours before a report of a missing adult can be filed. The problem with this is; we all know, the first 24 hours are the most vital in a search...therefore, providing the authorities with a written request on your behalf to by-pass those laws and begin an immediate search may prove helpful.

Take a moment to fill out these forms.

1. PRINT THIS FORM AND FILL OUT COMPLETELY.
2. KEEP THIS SIGNED ORIGINAL FORM WITH YOUR PERSONAL PAPERS AT HOME ANY SECURE LOCATION (EXAMPLE: SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX)
3. GIVE COPIES OF THE SIGNED ORIGINAL TO YOUR, FAMILY, LAWYER AND OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE INVOLVED IN YOUR LIFE.

Pledge to stay in touch - Living will for the missing, before they go missing (DRAFT)

I, __________________________________, being of sound mind, make this statement as a directive to be followed if I become a missing person.

I realize my moral obligation to my family and the impact my absence will have upon their lives. It is not plan at any point in time to fall out of reasonable contact.

I realize that there are thousands of missing persons in the USA and swift action is the best way to prevent.

I realize that privacy issues, created to protect individuals, can sometimes stand in the way of the location of a valid missing persons case.

If I am absent from my normal routine in responsibilities of life, it is my wish that immediate action be taken to retrieve and return me to my loved ones.

I have provided fingerprint and DNA sample for such action should it ever become necessary. I have also filled out a form that states my physical description, true to the best of my ability, to be used in the event I should become a missing person.

    Great idea.
But, Pres. Bush, signed into Law, that the month of Auguest each year is dedicated to Missind Endangered Adults. He also signed into the same law, that a missing person report should be taken immediately.
And if the person is locted, then cancel the bulletin.

    Tks, Sam
