Pluralism: An Indirect Claim to Deity

Apart from Truth, There is No Salvation

Jared Moore
Whenever I was 18 years old and a senior in high school, there was a girl in one of my classes who told me that she believed all religions were true, leading to the individual religion's view of heaven.

I've also run into something similar in youth ministry in the past. Fewer and fewer people today believe Jesus is the only Way of salvation.

The problem with pluralism is that it's invented from the mind of the person who holds it. There are no objective claims on the subject because if "god" is unknowable, then objective truth concerning God is impossible. So, the resultant so-called truths concerning "god" or "ultimate reality" are only hypothesises. The problem continues though because a hypothesis by definition is an "educated guess". How can there be any educated guesses concerning anything about an unknowable "god"? The answer is that there can't be. Where does the education come from? All the so-called "educated guesses" actually ignore the only evidence we have; history, the world, humanity, and God's nature and character. Even the explanation that "god" is unknowable is a "knowable statement concerning "god"' so therefore "god's" unknowability, if true, would be unknowable.

Pluralism is just double-talk "mumbo, jumbo". It's "hypothesized" autonomy. It's an indirect claim to deity; and it frustrates me to no end. It's like a man who hypothesizes he's Darth Vader while saying the knowability of him being Darth Vader is unknowable; and his Darth Vaderness is expressed to humanity through different expressions--"Darth Vader is Luke's father", "Darth Vader isn't Luke's father--without ever contradicting his unknowable Darth Vader identity. This person would be placed in a mental institution. Claiming something, based on your claim alone is not a hypothesis; and it's certainly not any form of logical truth.

Pluralism says that "Christianity has no authority concerning an unknowable god", while making an authoritative statement concerning the unknowability of "god". If "god" is unknowable, then there are no authoritative statements or hypothesis concerning his unknowability. The so-called authentic contradictory ways to experience this so-called "god" among all pluralistic-approved religions is ridiculous. After all, whether or not these multiple religions are experiencing the "Real" is unknowable.

Because of these various inconsistencies, Pluralism defeats itself. It destroys the laws of logic from which it argues from. How can an argument be taken seriously whenever it destroys its own foundation for argumentation? The answer is that it can't.

Religions make contradictory truth-claims because there is one Triune God who sovereignty rules all. He answers to no one, but has decided to reveal Himself through divinely-inspired Scripture writers who penned His word pointing to the coming of His communication, God the Son. This Son, Jesus Christ made exclusive claims, such as Him being the only Way to God the Father. Due to this truth, all men, women, and children must trust in His death, burial, and resurrection alone for his or her justification. Apart from Christianity, there is no salvation.
