Plus Size Bikinis for the Sizzling Summer of 2009

Artisttia Yarns
It's that time of year, put the Beach Boys on the iTunes and start to boogie. Tune up the volume and listen to the tunes. The sizzling summer months will soon be here. It will be the summer of 2009! It will be time to be at the beach, pool, or if you really want to heat things up, the hot tub. If you are a plus size woman, the dilemma at the moment is, what type of swimwear will you be wearing for the summer of 2009?

Do you still buy into those myths that plus size women should wear only dark colors? Are you a shrinking Violet? Or do you think you'd look better under a burka? Do you think that short sleeves aren't for you? Have you bought into the Hollywood horse-hockey that thin wins and fat is out? Only the other night on TV, I heard the line from a man on the show, Ugly Betty say, "I like a woman with a little junk in her trunk". I guess there is hope for Hollywood after all! Hopefully, if you hadn't started to rethink these myths before you are now. The true question at hand is do you love yourself enough to dare to go a bit bare at the beach? Well, as far down as a bikini. Many men like some things left to the imagination. Horror of horrors, do you think plus size and bikini words don't belong in the same sentence together? Well, they do. As a plus size woman you too can look spectacular in a bikini. I know, I know, trust me, I've been there. It is hard enough to find stylish fashionable plus size swim suits. And lets face it a bikini is not for everyone; one good dive of the high board and your knickers will be down by your knees. But if you aren't going to the beach for a workout it is time for that new plus size bikini.

Now you are probably wondering where a fashionable, fashionistas, like yourself would find a fantabulous hot little bikini number. I bet you didn't even know they made bikinis for plus sizes. Well, they do. You would know this if you had been closely following the latest fashion trend for this year's summer season. It is considered a must have for the summer. My favorite haunt to purchase swimwear is the online store, Love Your Peaches. No pre-fabs here. Everything is made to order. This means it fits like a glove and shows off that beautiful body of yours. Not only to they have bikinis but for those of us that still like to take a dive they also have a few one piece suits. You can pick your pattern and pick your size. But that is the kind of detail and understanding found here because of the owner is a plus size woman owner herself. Here is a quote from her website, "Just because you have a little more to love, doesn't mean you can't strut your stuff at the pool or beach! You can do just that with a plus size bikini! To find the perfect plus size bikini for yourself, visit us online at www.LoveYourPeaches.com." The shop carries sizes 1X-6X and best of all the suits are modeled on women in that size range. When you order your suit they ask for your bra size to make certain that the cup size of the top of the bikini is adequate for coverage. The first suit that I would recommend is from Love Your Peaches. It is classic string bikini which is beautiful. It is shown in a lovely hot pink pattern and the cut of the string bikini makes your legs look long, strong, and thin. Make second recommendation for this summers 2009 bikini is also from here, and it is the bikini with the halter style top. Halter style tops give great support to the bust line and draw the eye up.

The third suit I'd recommend is found at Bare Necessities Charmline Isabella Bikini. The top is bandeau style with a scalloped edge at the top of the bust line and the bottoms are typical triangle shaped bikini bottoms. The bikini has a fun retro '60s feel in pink and green colors. Best of all it's on sale now. My fourth recommendation is the Freya Vodka Chaser on the same site. The minute you see it the Brian Hyland song, about the yellow polka dot bikini will begin running through your head. But there is no way you will want to hide this number under a blanket or in the ocean. Instead of yellow this suit has been updated to grey with large white polka dots. The balcony style top even has an under-wire and the bottoms are the triangle style with a sweet wide white belt. The web site is

My fifth and final selections because I just can't limit myself to one suit here are the suits by A Plus Bikini. They have 13 different styles in different patterns and colors. If I had to boil it down to just one suit on the site, I'd pick the Cheerful three piece bikini. It is diagonally striped number and it has a great little skirt for when you want just a little more coverage or those boardwalks that insist on more coverage.

But what to do if the size range 1X-6X doesn't cover the goddess style curves that you have. Try Big Gals Lingerie for both your bikini and lingerie. Their sizes extend up to size 12X. There is a very limited selection here but in the plus size world, as I'm sure you are aware, as you go up in size selection goes down. This too is an online store and I had difficulty finding the swimwear at first. The navigational bar is located on the left-hand side of the page and in tiny little print but it is there. Their website is http://www.biggalslingerie.com/

If you are plus size on the top and so called normal on the bottom half (hey, and what is normal but a setting on your dryer!) Victoria's Secret can't be beat. Earlier this year, I wrote to them and encouraged them to increase their size range. You should do the same. We deserve the same pampering as our thin sisters get. No matter what you choose to wear, choose something you feel good in and be proud of your body. You deserve to be proud of all of your curves, laugh lines, and scars. They tell a story about our lives. As for me, I'll be the one doing the one and a half gainer dive at the deep end in my one piece or maybe not ( I don't want my bloomers in a bunch). I think my neck surgeon might have something to say about that. I can't wait to see you at the pool in your new summer of 2009 bikini.

  • No matter what your size, you too can look good in a bikini
Pluto doesn't care about her size. She thinks she's beautiful and still a planet. If Pluto doesn't think size matters than neither should YOU!

I'm sorry, the words "plus size" and "bikini" just DO NOT belong together, and I'm plus sized!

To be honest I thought this article was going to be a joke. I thought plus size and bikini didn't belong together. To you that wear them. I'm sorry for being so thoughtless.
