Plus Size Women: 4 Clothing Items You Should Toss

Stephanie Modkins
Are you a plus size woman? If so, there are four clothing items you should toss from your closet. They are insidious ones that inherently make a big girl look bigger. Replace them with more flattering items that actually complement your shape.

Clothing Item #1: Muumuus

According to Dictionary.com, Christian missionaries introduced these loose; hanging dresses to Hawaiian women "when a few flowers sufficed as a garment." As they transitioned across the globe, muumuus began to serve as unflattering tent dresses for plus size women. Although comfortable, unless specially crafted, they make women with excess weight look like big blobs. Trade in your muumuus for dresses that accentuates your curves and make you feel and look like an attractive woman. Then, you will be able to get the kind of attention you really want from the opposite sex.

Clothing Item #2: Pocketed Jeans

If you are a plus size woman, you probably know that certain makers of this popular garb forget about females with curves. They assume any women worth her salt must be a size 5 or under. As a result, you may be tempted to buy any pair of jeans hanging on the rack that fits you. Don't fall into this trap. Certain types of jeans like pocketed ones only add bulk to your body. They make your hips and butt look much wider. You should toss all of your pocketed jeans in the trash and opt for sleeker ones with wide legs. They give a slimming effect that works well with "fluffy" women.

Clothing Item #3: Spandex leggings

The fashion expert who introduced spandex leggings to women needs to be put in jail. Most women, regardless of size, don't understand how to wear them. This reality is especially true about plus size women. Squeezing a big body into material that shows every lump and bump is rarely flattering. Get rid of your spandex leggings and match up your tops with bottoms that provide you with adequate coverage and support. Stand in the mirror and do a comparison. You will see the non-spandex option is much better.

Clothing Item #4: Super Thin Belts

Fortunately, you rarely see super thin belts in stores anymore. But, a few of you plus size women (you know who you are) won't let the one you purchased in 1980 go. Be honest with yourself. Even if you are still able to tie this accessory around your waist, it only accentuates your belly. You can still wear a belt regardless of size just be sure the one you select is wide. You should toss out all of the other ones hanging in your closet because they don't do anything for your figure.
